TTC detours buses around Strachan Avenue project,
July 23 to August 3

The City of Toronto is closing

  • Strachan Avenue, southbound lanes, between Caniff Street and East Liberty / Ordinance Streets

starting tomorrow, Monday, July 23 to accommodate Metrolinx contractors who are building an overpass to carry Strachan Avenue across the GO Transit right-of-way.

The new overpass is part of the ongoing project to improve the infrastructure along the “Georgetown South” rail corridor, including accommodating the future Air Rail Link between Toronto Pearson International Airport and Union Station.

During construction, the contractors will raise Strachan Avenue by about two metres (six feet) to pass over the rail corridor. In turn, they will lower the rail corridor from Bathurst Street to King Street West, with the lowest point about 8 metres (24 feet) below Strachan Avenue. The new overpass will also accommodate bicycle lanes and sidewalks.

This week and next, the contractors are blocking the southbound lanes to finish installing a new sewer chamber under Strachan Avenue at Douro Street / Wellington Street West.

The TTC is detouring buses operating along the 63 Ossington and 316 Ossington overnight routes, while the roadway is closed.

Work on project previously blocked both lanes of Strachan Avenue at the same site and the TTC detoured buses in both directions from Monday, June 11 until Thursday, July 5.
