Davis Drive rapidway construction closes more lanes,
starting September 4

Update — Wednesday, September 5, 1:36 p.m.: Contractors have postponed the work at Davis and Huron Heights Drives to tomorrow, Thursday, September 6, and Friday, September 7, instead of yesterday, Tuesday, September 4, and today, Wednesday, September 5.

Metrolinx and York Region contractors continue the project to build a rapidway — bus-only lanes in the centre of the roadway — along Davis Drive in Newmarket.

As the contractors continue to work on water mains and prepare for building the Eastern Creek culvert, they’ll be reducing Davis Drive to just two lanes between Bolton Avenue and Patterson Street, starting today, Tuesday, September 4.

641-679_Davis_Drive_08_30_2012.jpgSpecifically, they’ll restrict traffic on Davis from Bolton Avenue to just west of Patterson Street to one lane in each direction, with the centre median lane available for emergency vehicle traffic.

The work continues for about three months until December.

Construction also blocks the sidewalk on the north side of Davis between Bolton Avenue and Patterson Street. When crossing to the south sidewalk, please use the signalized intersection.

At times, the work may also temporarily close the bus stop at Davis Drive and Patterson Street, as contractors continue to build a retaining wall at 693 Davis. When the stop is closed, westbound transit passengers must to board the bus at Lundy’s Lane or Huron Heights Drive.

The work likely delays service for GO Transit passengers riding buses operating along the 65 Newmarket / Toronto route and York Region Transit passengers riding buses operating along the 50 Queensway, 54 Bayview, 55 / 55B Davis Drive, 58A Leslie via Mount Albert and 520 / 521 Newmarket community bus routes.

Another crew will be working on a traffic pole at the intersection of Davis Drive and Yonge Street tomorrow, Wednesday, September 5.

They’ll be closing the eastbound left-turn lane on Davis just west of Yonge. They may also close some sidewalks during their work. Obey signs to safely walk around the construction zone.

This work may affect service for GO Transit buses operating along the 65 Newmarket / Toronto and 68 Barrie / Newmarket routes and York Region Transit buses operating along the Viva blue, 50 Queensway, 55 / 55B Davis Drive, 58A Leslie via Mount Albert 98 Yonge, 502 / 521 Newmarket community bus routes.

Yet another work crew will be temporarily closing the westbound curb bus lane on the northwest corner of Davis and Huron Heights Drives tomorrow, Thursday, September 6, and Friday, September 7 to install a new hydro pole foundation.

They’ll also close the sidewalk around the work area. Please obey any signs on the site for safe pedestrian detour routes around the construction zone.

They’ll also relocate the bus stop on the northwest corner of Davis and Huron Heights farther west on Davis, affecting passengers riding GO Transit buses operating along the 65 Newmarket / Toronto and York Region Transit buses operating along the 50 Queensway, 55 / 55B Davis Drive, 58A Leslie via Mount Albert and 521 Newmarket community bus routes. Look for signs at the regular bus stop directing you to the temporary stop.
