Streetcars return to Kingston Road, October 9

After nearly six months of bus service, Kingston Road transit passengers can look forward to riding streetcars again. The TTC is resuming regular streetcar service along Kingston Road, with cars serving entire the 502 Downtowner and 503 Kingston Rd tripper routes to and from downtown Toronto, starting Tuesday, October 9.

The TTC withdrew the cars from service Monday, May 7 due to its own project to upgrade the streetcar tracks on Queen Street East between Coxwell and Vancouver Avenues and City of Toronto projects to upgrade water services along the same section of Queen and on Kingston Road between Victoria Park Avenue and Main Street / Southwood Drive.

Since the buses replacing the streetcars only operated as far west as Broadview Avenue, some Kingston Road passengers petitioned the TTC, asking that it extend the buses to the Financial District so they wouldn’t have to transfer as often during their daily commutes. However, the TTC has maintained its shortened bus service until next week.

Since another TTC track project blocks access to McCaul Street, streetcars operating along the 502 Downtowner route will not serve McCaul Loop. Instead, they’ll continue further westward along Queen Street East to turn in the Wolseley Loop, on Bathurst Street, just north of Queen.
