GO opens new parking garage at Oakville GO Station,
October 22

GO Transit passengers have more parking spaces available at Oakville GO Station starting this Monday, October 22.

That day, GO opens a new multi-level parking garage with about 1,200 new parking spots on the south side of the station. With access from Cornwall Road, this facility contains an advanced vehicle-counting system that will inform you of the number of spots available on each level of the structure, as you enter the garage. A new traffic signal on Cornwall also improves traffic flow around the station, which serves 5,000 passengers every day.

Eco-friendly features for the new facility include LED (light-emitting diode) lighting inside and out, solar panels on the roof and a unique white roof surface that reflects light and reduces the amount of heat that the building absorbs. You can also take advantage of accessible passage from the new garage to the train platforms, the station building and north parking lot through the east-end tunnel.

The new six-story structure also boasts a covered ground-level drop off and pick up zone — or “Kiss ‘n’ Ride” — that links passengers to the train platforms.

The total cost of the project to expand parking at the station was $41.1 million. The Government of Canada contributed as much as $20.55 million and the Government of Ontario provided $20.55 million.
