Oakville Transit raises fares, January 1

Starting New Year’s Day, Tuesday, January 1, 2013, Oakville Transit is raising the cost to buy some tickets and passes.

The new price for adult passengers to buy a monthly pass jumps to $99 from $94 that day. The cost of an adult fare with a PRESTO fare card increases to $2.70 per ride, instead of $2.65 per ride — for the first 35 rides each month. Student passengers will have to shell out $22 to buy 10 tickets or $65 for a monthly pass. (The current student fares are $21.50 for 10 tickets or $60 for the passes.)

You’ll also pay more if you’re riding an Oakville Transit bus to connect with a GO Transit bus or train in Oakville. That cost goes up to 70 cents instead of 65 cents.

As part of its program to encourage passengers to switch to PRESTO fare cards, Oakville Transit will no longer sell adult tickets after New Year’s Eve, Monday, December 31. You can still use ‘old’ Oakville Transit tickets to pay your bus fare until Sunday, March 31, 2013.
