Metrolinx and York Region contractors continue the project to build a rapidway — bus-only lanes in the centre of the roadway — along Davis Drive in Newmarket.
Starting Monday, April 29, contractors continue to relocate underground utilities at two sites to prepare for major construction later this year.
First, the crews are digging potholes to locate the utilities and then replacing the sanitary sewer line in front of 333 Davis Drive (Bethel Church), from 9:30 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. each day for about one week or until Friday, May 3.
They’ll dig the potholes, using a “hydrovac” — truck-mounted vacuum. Once they have finished potholing, they will begin to dig and replace the sanitary line. Expect noise from the hydrovac.
The work may occasionally block east- and westbound lanes in front of #333 Davis. If the work affects bus stops or sidewalks, directional signs will guide transit passengers and pedestrians to the nearest available stop or sidewalk.
A “paid-duty” York Regional Police office will be on site to direct traffic and pedestrians.
Second, contractors are relocating utilities on the northwest corner of Davis Drive and George Street starting tomorrow, Monday, April 29, for about three weeks, or until Friday, May 17.
From 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. each day, crews are digging an open trench that will encase telecommunication wires underground in the vacant car wash / gas station parking lot at the intersection.
The work blocks the sidewalk on the west side of George Street for about three days. Pedestrians may only walk on the east side of George Street. If the work affects bus stops, directional signs will guide passengers to the nearest available bus stop.
GO Transit passengers riding express buses operating along the 65 Newmarket / Toronto route and York Region Transit passengers riding local buses operating along the 44 Woodspring - Bristol, 50 Queensway, 55 / 55B Davis Drive and 58 Mt Albert routes should expect detours or delays.
