Burlington Transit revises routes and services, November 3

Burlington is just latest of medium-sized cities and towns in the Greater Golden Horseshoe area that has set out to totally revamp its entire transit system.

The others that have done so — Oakville, Guelph, Peterborough and, most recently, Barrie — have all received mixed results from the sweeping changes they’ve introduced. (Another city about to scrap its current route network to replace it with a totally new system is Niagara Falls.)

Burlington Transit has set about making its changes bit by bit, adding more service to areas where transit is a success — mostly in the southern part of the city and decreasing service in other areas.

This time, starting Sunday, November 3, it’s making its biggest set of changes yet — all part of the final phase of an interim service plan that added service, resulting from ridership statistics and feedback from passengers and transit staff. This includes increasing evening, weekend and holiday service and more frequent service on some routes across the city.

Some notable changes are more frequent trips along the city’s most popular routes; new service and routes north of the Queen Elizabeth Way, on Harvester Road and along the North Service Road; earlier and later service on weekends and holidays and eliminating all dial-a-ride service.

BT is also introducing new late-evening service on several routes serving much of the city to and from Burlington GO Station and increasing holiday service so that holiday schedules are the same as Sunday schedules.
