Effective 12:30 p.m. this afternoon, service on the Scarborough RT will stop while the TTC clears the line of ice and snow. The move is a preventative measure to ensure that service is able to operate through the afternoon rush hour. Service is expected to resume at 3 p.m.
The TTC’s official press release is as follows:
TTC temporarily shutting down SRT train service for snow, ice removal
February 5, 2014
The Toronto Transit Commission would like to advise everyone that starting at 12:30 p.m. today it will be temporarily shutting down the Scarborough RT to allow its work crews to clear ice and snow from the system.
In place of rail service the TTC will be running 24 shuttle buses between Kennedy and McCowan stations. Train service is scheduled to resume at 3 p.m. in time for the afternoon rush period.
In preparation for the extensive snowfall today maintenance trains have applied de-icer along the Bloor-Danforth line, and crews are conducting general inspections of track switches across the subway network. TTC surface crews are also conducting general inspections of streetcar track switches and overhead wires.
The TTC apologizes to its customers for this inconvenience.
