These changes result in the TTC increasing and decreasing the frequency of service along different parts of the route at various times of the week.

59 Maple Leaf

Starting Monday, March 31, the TTC revises the path of the route Mondays to Fridays during rush hours, so that buses operate south of Lawrence Avenue West at all times of the week. Since it’s revising the path of the route during rush hours, the TTC is canceling service along the 52C branch of the 52 Lawrence West route.

Mondays to Fridays during rush hours, eastbound buses operate along their usual rush-hour route to Culford Road and Lawrence Avenue West, then proceed:

southward along Culford;
eastward along Gulliver and Ingram Drives;
northward along Sheffield Street;
eastward along Colville Road; and then
northward along Benton Road to Lawrence West,
resuming their regular route eastward along Lawrence.

Although this routing change inconveniences passengers traveling to and from stops north of Lawrence Avenue West during rush hours, because they face a longer trip to and from the subway, the TTC is also softening the blow by increasing the frequency of service along the entire route during rush hours. It also benefits passengers to expect a consistent routing along the route at all times of the week.

Transit agencies often interline two or more routes with a common terminal to save resources — meaning the number of drivers and vehicles to provide service. For example, until today, southbound buses operating along the 316 Ossington overnight route would arrive at the Exhibition Loop, then continue northward along the 329 Dufferin overnight route. After completing a round trip, the bus would return to the Exhibition, then proceed northward along the 316 Ossington overnight route.
