Main Street Markham construction:
TTC detours start April 28

Rebuilding and redesigning Main Street Markham between Major Mackenzie Drive and Highway 407 is a key strategic priority for the City of Markham and the City has been working on this major project since 2012.

While the primary goal of the project is to rebuild the roadway, it also will allow the City to:

  • upgrade the watermains, storm sewers and connections to these water services;
  • enhance the streetscape;
  • improve public spaces; and
  • showcase the heritage community of Markham Village.

In 2013, City contractors finished rebuilding the street between Bullock Drive / Parkway Avenue and:

  • widened the sidewalks to two metres (six feet);
  • installed decorative boulevard pavers;
  • installed energy-efficient light-emitting diode (LED) streetlights;
  • removed and replaced curbs;
  • installed new electrical infrastructure; and
  • installed the first layer of roadway asphalt.

The City starts the final roadway paving and minor boulevard works tomorrow, Monday, April 28, closing northbound lanes between Highway 7 and Parkway Avenue. Once again, the TTC is detouring buses operating along the 102D Markham Rd route to accommodate the work.

Construction continues until late June.

GO Transit and York Region Transit have not announced detours for bus services resulting from this construction. However, YRT continues to detour buses operating along the 301 Markham express route to avoid the intersection of Main Street North with Bullock Drive / Parkway Avenue “for safety reasons”.

102D Markham Rd

Southbound buses operate along their regular route.

Starting Monday, April 28, northbound buses operate along their regular route to Main Street South Markham and Highway 7, then detour:

eastward along Highway 7;
northward along Wooten Way North; and then
westward along Parkway Avenue to Main North,
resuming their regular route northward along Main.

Northbound buses skip their regular stops

  • on Main Street North Markham across from Bruce Thompson Drive and at Robinson Street and Parkway Avenue.

Instead, northbound buses drop off or pick up passengers at temporary stops

  • on Highway 7 at Cosburn Road and Christman Court,
  • on Wooten Way North at Lindenlea and Church Streets and across from Parkway Avenue and
  • on Parkway Avenue west of Sir Bodwin Place, at Sir Constantine Drive, west of Sir Bedevere Place, at Paramount Road, west of Orchard Street and at Main Street North.

Construction continues until late June.
