New Street construction delays
Burlington Transit buses, starting May 20

Update — Wednesday, October 8, 6:30 p.m.: Construction has ended for the year and buses have resumed regular service.

Region of Halton contractors recently started a two-year project to install a water main and reline parts of the waste-water main on New Street in Burlington. This work replaces and repairs aging infrastructure.

Construction takes place in two phases. The first phase, from Appleby Line to Cumberland Avenue, starts this month and continues until Sunday, November 30. The Region expects the second phase, from Hampton Heath Road to Appleby Line, to start in spring 2015 and continue until fall 2015.

Utilities, including Union Gas, Burlington Hydro and Bell Canada, have already started to locate and mark out their infrastructure to prepare for this construction. The project may also delay traffic or require work crews to shift or restrict traffic lanes.

Work on this phase of the project continues until November 30. Next year, during the second phase, contractors will perform similar work on New Street between Appleby Line and Hampton Heath Road from spring until fall.

Starting Tuesday, May 20, passengers riding Burlington Transit buses operating along the 10 New - Maple route should expect delays.
