More Davis Drive rapidway construction,
starting June 1

Metrolinx and York Region contractors continue the project to build a rapidway — bus-only lanes in the centre of the roadway — along Davis Drive in Newmarket.

Several construction activities will take place next week on and around Davis Drive.

This Sunday, June 1, from 7 until 11 a.m., Newmarket Hydro crews are removing old wooden hydro poles near Roxborough Road and Davis Drive. York Region Transit is temporarily closing its eastbound bus stop on Davis east of Roxborough from 6:30 until 11 a.m. to accommodate the work, affecting buses operating along the 50 Queensway and 55 Davis routes.

Starting Monday, June 2, crews will close traffic lanes on several streets north and south of Davis from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. each day.

Bayview Parkway at Davis

Crews will reduce traffic to just one lane in each direction on Bayview Parkway as they pour the new deck on the north side of the Keith Bridge.

They’ll block the west sidewalk on Bayview and York Region Transit will close the stop on the north side of Davis, just west of Bayview for westbound buses operating along the 50 Queensway, 54 Bayview and 55 / 55B Davis Driveroutes.

Traffic-control personnel will be on site to direct traffic.

Expect construction vehicle traffic and noise in the area to increase.

Patterson Avenue at Davis

Crews will close the right curb lane on Patterson, restricting traffic to just one lane in each direction. They’ll also block the sidewalk on the west side of Patterson.

Lundy’s Lane at Davis

Crews will block the southbound curb lane on Lundy’s, reducing traffic to just one lane in each direction.

Tentatively, the crews will also closed Lundy’s at Davis for about two weeks, starting Monday, June 9.

During Davis Drive rapidway construction, GO Transit passengers riding express buses operating along the 65 Newmarket / Toronto route and York Region Transit passengers riding local buses operating along the 44 Bristol, 50 Queensway, 54 Bayview, 55 / 55B Davis Drive, 58 Mount Albert, 223 Newmarket GO shuttle and 520 / 521 Newmarket community routes should expect delays.
