Queens Quay track construction
continues August 2

TTC crews continue rebuilding the streetcar tracks on Queens Quay West, as part of Waterfront Toronto’s project to upgrade the streetscape.

Crews continue final track work east of Lower Spadina Avenue:

  • Between Lower Spadina Avenue and Yo Yo Ma Lane: TTC crews continue getting ready to pour and form the concrete base for the remaining streetcar rails. Heavy rain storms last week delayed this work. They’ll pull and place these sections of rail during the night shifts from Tuesday, August 4 until Thursday, August 7 this week. Expect noise.
  • Between Shoppers Drug Mart and the Peter Slip Bridge: Last week, crews finished installing the rail lubricator pads and setting them in concrete. They also finished installing the track expansion joints on the Peter Slip Bridge, and the rails are now ready to receive the in-fill pour of concrete this week.

Crews continue rebuilding the new roadway on Queens Quay:

  • Bay Street to York Street: Roadway construction continues on the south side. Crews continue excavating for the new roadway between York Street and the 85 Harbour Street driveway on the north side. (Heavy rains delayed this work last week.)
  • York Street to Lower Simcoe Street: Crews continue forming and pouring the concrete base slab. Afterwards, they’ll pave the roadway.
  • Lower Simcoe Street to Rees Street: Crews continue working eastward toward Lower Simcoe from Rees Street, pouring concrete for the new road base to prepare for paving in the next two weeks. They’ll also pour a small section of concrete base slab east of Rees to the 250 Queens Quay driveway.

The contractors have multiple crews working this weekend, Saturday, August 2 and Sunday, August 3.

  • Between Yo Yo Ma Lane and Lower Spadina Avenue: pouring concrete for the TTC right-of-way.
  • Spadina / Queens Quay Loop: Installing overhead cabling.
  • Between Lower Spadina Avenue and Peter Slip Bridge: Working on the TTC traction-power conduits.
  • Between Rees and Lower Simcoe Streets: Preparing the roadway sub-base and pouring concrete to rebuild the road.

The contractors have scheduled no work for Simcoe Day, Monday, August 4.

The TTC continues to replace streetcars operating along the 509 Harbourfront and 510 Spadina routes with buses during this project.
