Lots of Greek cuisine and other culinary treats, a blues festival, a jazz festival, a folk festival, four farmers’ markets and a tennis championship: special events in the Ancaster of Hamilton, Brampton, the Downsview area of Toronto, the Galt area of Cambridge, the Georgetown area of Halton Hills, the Humber Bay Shores area of Toronto, Milton, Kitchener, the Lindsay area of Kawartha Lakes, Oakville, Stouffville and central Toronto affect transit services this weekend.

TD Festival of Friends
Festival of Friends express shuttle

The Hamilton Street Railway is operating express shuttle buses between downtown Hamilton and the Ancaster Fairgrounds.

Friday, August 8, buses leave King Street West, across from the MacNab Terminal at 4:30 p.m. and every 15 minutes until 10 p.m. They leave MacNab at 11:30 a.m. and every 15 minutes until 10 p.m. Saturday, August 9 and Sunday, August 10. The buses operate without stopping until reaching Gate #2 of the Ancaster Fairgrounds.

Friday, August 8, buses leave the fairgrounds across from the midway at 5:05 p.m. and every 15 minutes until 11:35 p.m. They leave the grounds at 12:05 p.m. and every 15 minutes until 11:35 p.m. Saturday, August 9 and Sunday, August 10. The buses operate without stopping until reaching Main Street West across from the MacNab Terminal (beside City Hall).

Around midnight, at the end of the event on all three nights, the HSR operates extra buses from the fairgrounds to accommodate late event-goers.

You’ll have to pay regular HSR fare, but you can present transfer tickets to the driver if you’ve paid your fare on another HSR bus or you can receive transfers from the driver if you plan to continue your trip on another bus.

Brampton


Brampton Farmers Market

Saturday mornings and early afternoons until October 11, the City of Brampton is closing

  • Main Streets North and South between Nelson and Wellington Streets

to accommodate the weekly farmers market.

Brampton Transit is detouring bus service during the market.


2 Main

From 6 a.m. until 2 p.m. Saturday, August 9, southbound buses operate along their regular route to Main Street North and Nelson Street, then detour:

westward along Nelson Street West, passing, but not stopping at, the Downtown Transit Terminal,
southward along George Streets North and South; and then
eastward along Wellington Street West to Main South,
resuming their regular route southward along Main.

York University is closing

in front of Tennis Canada’s Rexall Centre to accommodate the international men’s tennis championship.

The TTC is providing free express shuttle bus service to help tennis fans travel to and from the championship. York Region Transit is detouring buses during the event.

resuming their regular route southwestward along Guelph.

  • on Main Street South opposite Cross Street and at Wesleyan Street and

Westbound buses skip their regular stops

Buses that usually start or end their trips at Georgetown operate to and from the Georgetown GO Station, instead of Main Street South, and do not travel through downtown Georgetown. The buses leave the GO station at the same time as usual, according to their regular schedule.
