Bloor Street Oshawa construction: DRT detours start September 9



Update — Sunday, August 13, 2017, 5:33 p.m.: Starting Monday, August 14, 2017, the Region of Durham and the City of Oshawa are closing Bloor Street West west of Simcoe Street South during the next phase of the water-main project. DRT is detouring buses operating along the 401C Simcoe and 922 Bloor / Townline routes, while the street is closed. Construction on this part of Bloor Street West and the DRT detours continue until December 31, 2017.


Update — Tuesday, November 4, 9:48 a.m.: Work on the project blocks Ritson Road South north and south of Bloor Street East. Durham Region Transit is detouring buses operating along the 406 Dean route all day Friday, November 6, Saturday, November 7 and Sunday, November 8.


The Region of Durham and the City of Oshawa are closing

  • Bloor Street East Oshawa (Regional Road 22), eastbound lanes between Simcoe Street South and Ritson Road South

from Tuesday, September 9 until Tuesday, October 28

to accommodate the Region’s ongoing project to build a new trunk water-main and local water-mains and rebuild the roadway.

The project includes widening Bloor Street to five lanes and building Phase 1 of the large feeder water-main from east of Simcoe Street South to east of Ritson Road South. Construction started in May and will end by July 2015.

Durham Region Transit is detouring buses operating along this route, while the street is closed:

  • 922 Bloor - Victoria.

DRT previously detoured westbound buses for this project overnight from 10 p.m. Thursday, August 7 until 7 a.m. Friday, August 8.

Westbound buses operate along their regular route.

From Tuesday, September 9 until Tuesday, October 28, eastbound buses operate along their regular route to Bloor Street East and Simcoe Street South, then detour:

northward along Simcoe South;
eastward along First and McNaughton Avenues; and then
southward along Ritson Road South to Bloor,
resuming their regular route eastward along Bloor West.

Westbound buses skip their regular stops

  • on Bloor Street East at Albert Street, across from Merritt Street and at Ritson Road South.

Instead, eastbound buses drop off or pick up passengers at temporary stops

  • on Simcoe Street South north of Bloor Street East and at First Avenue,
  • on First Avenue east of Simcoe Street South and at Howard Street.
