Davis Drive rapidway construction:
Starting September 26

Metrolinx and York Region contractors continue the project to build a rapidway — bus-only lanes in the centre of the roadway — along Davis Drive in Newmarket.

Contractors are:

  • working at the intersection of Main Street and Davis Drive from 8 p.m. tonight, Friday, September 26 until 8 a.m. tomorrow, Saturday, September 27 to install a storm sewer and get ready for upcoming work to close Main Street North.
  • Expect noise.
  • During the work, crews will reduce traffic lanes on Main Stree North will be reduced.
  • Traffic can continue through the work zone to Davis Drive.

  • closing Main Street North to all traffic to start building the new vivastation and complete as much road construction as possible before winter from 8 a.m. tomorrow, Saturday, September 27 until 8 p.m. Sunday, September 28.
  • During this closure, traffic can’t continue through from Main Street North to Davis Drive.
  • Expect noise.

  • York Region Transit is detouring buses operating along the 44 Bristol and 520 Newmarket community bus routes, while the street is closed.

  • getting ready to widen and pave the roadway on the northwest corner of Davis Drive and Yonge Street, by shifting traffic lanes eastward around the intersection, overnight from about 8 p.m. Tuesday, September 30 until 5 a.m. Thursday, October 1.
  • Watch for directional signs and newly painted lane markers.
  • Crews may temporarily block traffic lanes during this work.
  • Expect noise.

Crews have installed a temporary road off Davis Drive to allow motorists to access the businesses across from Southlake Regional Health Centre at #s 625-627, 631, 637, 641 and 647 Davis while they install storm sewers, widen the road and build the future vivastation.

During Davis Drive rapidway construction, expect delays for:

  • GO Transit express buses operating along the 65 Newmarket / Toronto route; and
  • York Region Transit passengers riding local buses operating along the 44 Bristol, 50 Queensway, 54 Bayview, 55 / 55B Davis Drive, 58 Mount Albert, 223 Newmarket GO shuttle and 520 / 521 Newmarket community routes.
