Highway 7 East rapidway construction:
Line-painting, January 20

Metrolinx and York Region contractors continue to work on the project to build a rapidway — bus-only lanes in the centre of the roadway.

From 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. tomorrow, Tuesday, January 20, crews will paint traffic lines on the eastbound lanes of Highway 7 east of South Town Centre Boulevard and rapidway lanes at the intersections of Highway 7 with South Town Centre and South Town Centre with Cedarland Drive.

Crews will temporarily reduce eastbound traffic on Highway 7 east of South Town Centre to just one lane. Crews are painting approaches to rapidway lanes in key intersections as atemporary measure to help motorists identify the bus-only lanes. Nex summer, crews will apply the final top-coat of red pavement to the South Town Centre and Cedarland rapidway lanes, similar to those on Highway 7.

“Paid-duty” York Regional Police officers will help direct traffic at intersections.

During Highway 7 rapidway construction, expect delays for:

  • TTC buses operating along the 24 Victoria Park, 68 Warden and 224 Victoria Park North routes; and
  • YRT buses operating along the Viva green, Viva pink, Viva purple, 1 Highway 7, 224B Woodbine, 300 Business express and 302 Unionville express routes.

YRT continues to detour buses operating along the 302 Unionville express route, during ongoing construction on South Town Centre Boulevard and Cedarland Drive.
