Next month, you can still throw a loonie and toonie into the farebox when you board TTC streetcars or buses, or when you enter rapid transit stations — but you’ll have to pay more for most other types of fares.
At its meeting of Monday, February 2, the Toronto Transit Commission — the TTC’s board of directors — approved a staff recommendation to increase most TTC fare media by about ten cents per ride. However, children 12 years of age or younger ride free of fare. Cash fares remain the same as in 2014. The new fares start Sunday, March 1.
Adults pay $2.80, instead of $2.70, to buy a single token and the cost per ride with a PRESTO fare card also jumps to $2.80. The price of a weekly pass goes up to $40.75, instead of $39.25, while the cost for a monthly Metropass increases to $141.50, instead of $133.75. Post-secondary students pay $112, instead of $108, for monthly passes.
Seniors and student tokens also increase by ten cents to $1.95, instead of $1.85, with the same price applying to senior and student PRESTO users. Weekly passes cost $33, instead of 31.25, while a senior or student Metropass will set you back $112, instead of $108.
Day passes for all riders rise to $11.50, instead of $11. The new price for a GTA Weekly Pass is $61, instead of $56. For passengers riding downtown express buses, who have to pay an extra fare when boarding — the cost to buy a monthly downtown express sticker to apply to your Metropass is $40, instead of $38.50.
