Less service for colleges, universities,
February 13 to 23



Some call it “reading week”. Some call it “study week”. Some call it “mid-winter break”. Whatever you call it, the fact is that many colleges and universities are canceling classes next week, Tuesday, February 17 until Friday, February 20.

(Monday, February 16 is Family Day, a statutory holiday in Ontario. Most transit agenciesoperate with Sunday or holiday schedules that day.)

Since fewer passengers are traveling to and from Brock University’s St. Catharines campus, Conestoga College’s Doon Campus, Trent University’s Symons Campus, the University of Guelph’s Guelph campus, the University of Waterloo and Wilfrid Laurier University’s Waterloo campus local transit agencies are canceling some of their bus services.


Transit agencies are operating less service along these routes next week:

Grand River Transit12 Conestoga Mall - Fairview Park Mall, 13 Laurelwood, 110 Fairview Park - Conestoga College express, 116 Forest Glen - Conestoga College express.

Guelph Transit50 Stone Road express; 56 Victoria express; 57 Harvard express; 58 Edinburgh express; Downtown Shuttle late-night; Gordon - Edinburgh Loop late-night; Victoria - Clare Loop late-night; West Hanlon - Kortright late-night.

Niagara Falls TransitBrock Rapid.

Peterborough TransitTrent University East Bank express, Trent University West Bank express.

St. Catharines Transit Commission21 Confederation - Brock, 23 West - Brock commuter, 25 Brock Bullet, 28 Brock - Towpath shuttle, 29 Brock - Keefer shutle, 122 Brock - Pen shuttle, 123 Towpath - Brock, 124Glendale - Brock shuttle, 128 Brock - Towpath - Rockwood shuttle.


Brock University St. Catharines campus


Both Niagara Falls Transit and the St. Catharines Transit Commission are decreasing service to and from the university during the holidays.

Monday, February 16 is Family Day, a statutory holiday. Niagara Falls Transit buses do not operate along the route holidays.

From Tuesday, February 17 until Friday, February 20, it’s also canceling service along the route during the break.

Monday, February 16 is Family Day, a statutory holiday. SCTC buses do not operate along the route holidays.

From Tuesday, February 17 until Friday, February 20, the SCTC does not operate the bus that usually leaves Brock Tower Terminal at 11:06 p.m. during the break.

Regular service resumes Monday, February 23.

124 Glendale - Brock shuttle

Monday, February 16 is Family Day, a statutory holiday. SCTC buses do not operate along the route holidays.

From Tuesday, February 17 until Friday, February 20, it’s also canceling service along the route during the break.

Conestoga College Doon Campus

Monday, February 16 is Family Day, a statutory holiday. GRT buses do not operate along the route holidays.

From Tuesday, February 17 until Friday, February 20, it’s also not operating the southbound bus that usually leaves Fairview Park Mall terminal at 8:28 a.m. Mondays to Fridays. (The bus usually ends its trip on Conestoga College’s Doon Campus at 8:43 a.m.)

It’s also not operating the extra trip that leaves Conestoga College at 3:45 p.m.

Forest Glen / Conestoga College express

Monday, February 16 is Family Day, a statutory holiday. GRT buses do not operate along the route holidays.

From Tuesday, February 17 until Friday, February 20, it’s also not operating the southbound bus that usually leaves Forest Glen Plaza terminal at 7:13 a.m. Mondays to Fridays. (The bus usually arrives on Conestoga College’s Doon Campus at 7:29 p.m. It’s also not operating any buses along the route afternoons.

Regular service resumes Monday, February 23.


Trent University’s Symons Campus

Monday, February 16 is Family Day, a statutory holiday. Peterborough Transit combines the Trent East Bank and Trent West Bank services and operates with holiday schedules.

With holiday schedules, southbound buses leave Peter Gzowski College at 9:55 a.m. and every hour until 11:55 a.m., 2:55 p.m. and every hour until 4:55 p.m. and 7:55 p.m. and every hour until 9:55 p.m. They leave Sonja Bata Library at 10 a.m. and every hour until noon, 3 p.m. and every hour until 5 p.m. and 8 p.m. and every hour until 10 p.m.

Northbound buses leave Downtown Peterborough Terminal at 9:30 a.m. and every hour until 11:30 a.m., 2:30 p.m. and every hour until 4:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. and every hour until 9:30 p.m.

From Tuesday, February 17 until Friday, February 20, it’s also not operating the

From Tuesday, February 17 until Friday, February 20, southbound buses leave Gzwoski at 7:40, 8:20 a.m., 9 a.m. and every 80 minutes until 10:20 p.m. Northbound buses leave Downtown Terminal at 7:20 and 8 a.m. and every 80 minutes until 10 p.m.

Late-night “pub buses” do not operate.

Buses operate with regular schedules Saturday, February 21 and Sunday, February 23.

From Tuesday, February 17 until Friday, February 20, southbound buses leave Bata at 7:40 a.m. and every 40 minutes until 9:40 a.m., 11 a.m. and every 80 minutes until 11 p.m. Northbound buses leave Downtown Terminal at 7:20 a.m. and every 40 minutes until 9:20 a.m., 10:40 a.m. and every 80 minutes until 10:40 p.m.

Late-night “pub buses” do not operate.

Buses operate with regular schedules Saturday, February 21 and Sunday, February 23.

University of Guelph Guelph campus

Downtown Shuttle late-night

From Friday, February 13 until Sunday, February 22, Guelph Transit is not operating buses along the route.

Regular late-night service resumes Tuesday, February 24.

58 Edinburgh express

From Tuesday, February 16 until Friday, February 20, Guelph Transit is not operating buses along the route.

Regular service resumes Monday, February 23.

5 / 5A Gordon

From Tuesday, February 17 until Friday, February 20, Guelph Transit replaces regular 5 Gordon service with service along the 5A Gordon branch of the route during rush hours, replacing the buses that usually operate along the 56 Victoria express route.

Southbound buses operate along the regular route to University Centre Terminal, then proceed:

east- and southward along South Ring Road;
eastward along Stone Road East;
southward along Victoria Road South; and then
westward along Arkell Road to Summerfield Drive,
resuming their regular route southward along Summerfield.

Southbound buses skip their regular stops

  • on Gordon Street at Harvard Road, Kortright Road West, Harts Lane West and Edinburgh Road South and
  • on Arkell Road east of Gordon Street.

Instead, southbound buses drop off or pick up passengers at temporary stops

  • on Victoria Road South beside #1035 Victoria South.

(Buses operating along the 1A College Edinburgh route serve all southbound stops on Gordon Street, between the University Centre and Edinburgh Road South. Buses operating along the 6 Harvard Ironwood route serve the stop on Gordon Street at Harvard Road. Buses operating along the 7 Kortright Downey route serve stops on Gordon Street at Harvard Road and Kortright Road West. Buses operating along the 16 Southgate route serve the southbound stops on Gordon Street between South Ring Road and Arkell Road.)

Southbound buses operate along the regular 5 Gordon route at all other times of the week.

Northbound buses operate along their regular route at all times of the week.

Gordon - Edinburgh Loop late-night

From Friday, February 13 until Sunday, February 22, Guelph Transit is not operating buses along the route.

Regular late-night service resumes Tuesday, February 24.

57 Harvard express
50 Stone Road express

From Tuesday, February 16 until Friday, February 20, Guelph Transit is not operating buses along the route.

Regular service resumes Monday, February 23.

56 Victoria express

From Tuesday, February 16 until Friday, February 20, Guelph Transit is not operating buses along the route.

GT revises service along the 5 / 5A Gordon route to partially replace service along Victoria Road South during the holidays.

Regular service resumes Monday, February 23.

Victoria - Clare Loop late-night
West Hanlon - Kortright Loop late-night

From Friday, February 13 until Sunday, February 22, Guelph Transit is not operating buses along the route.

Regular late-night service resumes Tuesday, February 24.


University of Waterloo

From Tuesday, February 17* until Friday, **February 20, GRT doesn’t operate the eastbound bus that usually leaves The Boardwalk terminal at 7:50 a.m. The bus usually ends its trip on Ring Road beside the William G. Davis Computer Sciences Centre at 8:17 a.m.


Wilfrid Laurier University Waterloo campus


12 Conestoga Mall - Fairview Park Mall

From Tuesday, February 17* until Friday, **February 20, GRT doesn’t operate the Waterloo-bound bus that usually leaves Ottawa Street South north of Westmount Road East at 8:50 a.m. Mondays to Fridays. The bus ends its trip on University Avenue West west of King Street North.

Regular service resumes Monday, February 23.
