Metrolinx and York Region contractors continue the project to build a rapidway — bus-only lanes in the centre of the roadway — along Davis Drive in Newmarket.
Starting this month, crews will be demolishing and removing York Region’s vacant building on the northwest corner of Davis and Longford Drives. Removing the building makes room for widening the road to accommodate the rapidway. Expect noise and dust during the work. Sometimes, crews may work weekends.
Removing the building and cleaning up the site requires about two months or until April 10.
Crews will fence the property will be fenced and the contractors will fully monitor and supervise all activities to conform to regional / municipal bylaws and all other regulatory requirements.
At times, crews may block sidewalks around the demolition area on the north side of Davis and the west side of Longford. Directional signs will safely guide you around the construction zone. Crews may also block traffic lanes on Longford Drive.
During Davis Drive rapidway construction, expect delays for:
- GO Transit express buses operating along the 65 Newmarket / Toronto route; and
- York Region Transit passengers riding local buses operating along the 44 Bristol, 50 Queensway, 54 Bayview, 55 / 55B Davis Drive, 58 Mount Albert, 223 Newmarket GO shuttle and 520 / 521 Newmarket community bus routes.
