Davis Drive rapidway construction:
continues March 10

Metrolinx and York Region contractors continue the project to build a rapidway — bus-only lanes in the centre of the roadway — along Davis Drive in Newmarket.

Tuesday, March 10 and Wednesday, March 11 from 9 a.m. until 7 p.m. each day, crews are painting traffic lines, stop bars and crosswalks at intersections and side streets at various locations along Davis between Patterson Street / Roxborough Road and Yonge Street.

To maintain traffic flow along Davis, crews will shift traffic as they progress. They’ll maintain access to businesses and “paid-duty” York Regional Police officers will be onsite to manage traffic at intersections.

Expect traffic delays.

Starting Tuesday, March 10 from 8:30 a.m. until 4 p.m. each day, crews are installing a telecommunications ductbank across the entrance to The Tannery.

They’ll close traffic lanes on the The Tannery driveway to accommodate this work; however vehicles can still enter and exit.

Work continues until March 13.

Starting Wednesday, March 11 from about 8:30 a.m. until 4 p.m. each day, crews are installing electrical conduits for permanent traffic signals around the intersection of Main Street and Davis Drive.

They’ll temporarily block the eastbound curb lane on Davis near Main and the northbound lane on Main Street North. They may also temporarily block sidewalks near the work area. Watch for signs to guide you safely around the construction zone to the nearest available sidewalk.

Work continues until March 13.

  • 65 Newmarket / Toronto.

Also expect delays for York Region Transit buses operating along these routes:

  • 44 Bristol;

  • 55 / 55B Davis Drive;
