Metrolinx and York Region contractors continue the project to build a rapidway — bus-only lanes in the centre of the roadway — along Davis Drive in Newmarket.
Despite the cold weather, telecommunications crew has made great progress over the winter and have completed installing all telecommunications ductbanks for the project.
Starting Monday, March 23, from about 7 a.m. until 5 p.m. each day, crews are “spring-cleaning” the corridor. They’ll tidy sidewalks and boulevards and clear the centre medians to prepare for building the rapidway down the centre of Davis.
They’ll set up rolling lane closures between Yonge Street and Longford Drive / Parkside Drive, while they remove stockpiles of construction materials from the centre median. They’ll also power-sweep sidewalks between Roxborough Road / Patterson Drive and Yonge Street. Expect dust.
Work continues until March 27.

They’ll be closing traffic lanes and sidewalks around the work area. Directional signs will guide you safely around the work zone to the nearest available sidewalk.
Work continues until April 3.
Starting Monday, March 23, from about 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. each day, work continues around the intersection of Davis Drive and Main Street.
Crews will temporarily close the eastbound curb lane on Davis and the northbound curb lane on Main North to install underground conduits.
They may close traffic lanes and sidewalks around the work area. Directional signs will guide you safely around the work zone to the nearest available sidewalk.
Work continues until March 27.
York Region Transit has moved its westbound bus stop west of Bayview Parkway to east of Bayview for about one month or until April 25. It’s also moving its eastbound stop at the southwest corner of Alexander Road and Davis to east of Alexander Monday, March 23 and Tuesday, March 24.
During Davis Drive rapidway construction, expect delays for GO Transit buses operating along this route:
- 65 Newmarket / Toronto.
Also expect delays for York Region Transit buses operating along these routes:
- 44 Bristol;
- 50 Queensway;
- 54 Bayview;
- 55 / 55B Davis Drive;
- 58 Mount Albert;
- 223 Newmarket GO shuttle; and
- 520 / 521 Newmarket community bus.

Despite the cold weather we have had over the past few months, our telecommunications crew has made great progress over the winter. We are excited to let you know that as of today, telecommunications ductbank installation is 100% complete. This is another great milestone to celebrate as we move closer to the rapidway opening this December.

Spring is this the air and the sunshine has melted most of the snow off of the roads and sidewalks along Davis Drive. Next week, crews will be spring cleaning along the corridor. Sidewalks and boulevards will be tidied and the centre medians will cleared in preparation for building the rapidway down the centre of Davis!
