Lake Shore / Carlaw construction:
TTC detours, April 17 to 20

The City of Toronto is closing:

  • part of the intersection of Lake Shore Boulevard East with Carlaw Avenue

from 8 p.m. Friday, April 17 until 5 a.m. Monday, April 20

as crews upgrade the railway tracks in the area.

The TTC is detouring buses operating along these routes, while the intersection is closed:

  • 72C Pape; and
  • 83 Jones.

The City is closing the westbound lanes of Lake Shore East at Carlaw and detouring traffic northward along Carlaw. Westbound traffic can access Lake Shore west of Morse Street. It’s maintaining one lane for eastbound traffic at all times.

It’s diverting southbound traffic on Carlaw at Queen Street East. Northbound traffic on Carlaw can turn right and travel eastbound on Lake Shore East.

This weekend only, you can temporarily access Commissioners Street along Leslie Street.

According to the City, after inspecting the tracks, the Toronto Port Lands Company rail contractor, PNR Railworks, determined April 15 that it urgently must repair the Canadian National Railway / Canadian Pacific Railway lines that serve the Port Lands area. The rail lines are sinking due to extended wear, deferred repairs, heavy traffic loading, deterioration of the ties and base material. It must replace the tracks and restore the road to ensure the safety of motorists, pedestrians and rail traffic.
