Main Street track construction:
TTC detours, May 9 to 18

The TTC is upgrading the streetcar tracks

  • on Main Street just north of Gerrard Street East

from Friday, May 9 until Monday, May 18.

It’s also diverting streetcars operating along the 306 Carlton overnight and 506 Carlton routes, to accommodate the work. Buses replace the cars east of Coxwell Avenue.

Starting at 9 a.m. on Saturday, May 9, TTC track crews will replace four rail expansion joints at the south end of the Main Street Bridge just north of Gerrard Street East. They’ll also remove a short section of adjoining rail at each rail joint. After they’ve finished, streetcars can resume operating at regular speed through the area with a smooth transition over the rail joints.

They’ll restrict traffic on the Main Street Bridge to the curb lanes in both directions through the work zone and work “around-the-clock”. They’ll excavate to expose the rail at each of the four locations during the day into the evening, from 7 a.m. until 10 p.m. within four days. Overnight, crews may install rail, weld and grind.
