Toronto events include the Becel Heart and Stroke Ride for Heart (May 31); and People in Motion (May 30, 31).


Becel Heart and Stroke Ride for Heart

From 2 a.m. until 2 p.m. Sunday, May 31, the City of Toronto is closing

  • the Don Valley Parkway between Highway 401 and the Frederick G. Gardiner Expressway and
  • the Frederick G. Gardiner Expressway between Carlaw Avenue and the Humber River

to accommodate the annual fund-raising marathon, allowing cyclists and in-line skaters to ride down the Parkway and support the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Ontario.

Exhibition Place is also closing some streets to accommodate start- and finish-line activities and end-of-race celebrations.

The event affects GO Transit and TTC services.

GO Transit

Although two major routes into and out of downtown Toronto are closed, GO buses will not miss stops on any route. However, buses will detour. As traffic conditions can change at any time, GO has not pre-arranged bus detours. Bus drivers will use different detours around the city, depending on the current traffic conditions, but GO also wants to make sure that passengers arrive at their destinations safely and on time.

31 / 31A / 31E / 31F / 31L Guelph / Georgetown / Toronto

Before 9 a.m. Sunday, May 31, GO may detour buses, but GO Transit control and route supervisors will determine specific routes, depending on traffic conditions at the time that each bus is traveling.

For example, in previous years during this event, some eastbound buses operated along their regular route to the Frederick G. Gardiner Expressway and Lake Shore Boulevard West (at the Humber River) and then detour:

eastward along Lake Shore and Harbour Street; and then
northward along Bay Street to the Union Station GO Bus Terminal.

In previous years, some westbound buses have started their trips at the Union Station GO Bus Terminal, then proceeded:

southward along Yonge Street; and then
westward along Lake Shore Boulevard West to the F. G. Gardiner Expressway (at the Humber),
resuming their regular route westward along the Gardiner.

From 9 a.m. until 2:30 p.m., all buses start and end their trips in Port Credit GO Station. Passengers may board trains operating along the 01 Lakeshore West line to travel between Post Credit and Union Station.

Eastbound buses operate along their regular route to Highway 427 and the Frederick G. Gardiner Expressway / Queen Elizabeth Way, then detour:

westward along the QEW;
southward along Hurontario Street;
westward along Park Street East;
northward along Anne Street; and then
westward along Queen Street East to Port Credit GO Station bus terminal,
ending their trips.

Westbound buses start their trips in Port Credit GO Station terminal, then proceed:

westward along Queen Street East;
southward along Elizabeth Street;
eastward along Park Street East;
northward along Hurontario Street; and then
eastward along the Queen Elizabeth Way to Highway 427,
resuming their regular route northward along Highway 427.

16 Hamilton / Toronto express

Before 9 a.m. Sunday, May 31, GO may detour buses, but GO Transit control and route supervisors will determine specific routes, depending on traffic conditions at the time that each bus is traveling.

For example, in previous years during this event, some eastbound buses operated along their regular route to the Frederick G. Gardiner Expressway and Lake Shore Boulevard West (at the Humber River) and then detour:

eastward along Lake Shore and Harbour Street; and then
northward along Bay Street to the Union Station GO Bus Terminal.

In previous years, some westbound buses have started their trips at the Union Station GO Bus Terminal, then proceeded:

southward along Yonge Street; and then
westward along Lake Shore Boulevard West to the F. G. Gardiner Expressway (at the Humber),
resuming their regular route westward along the Gardiner.

From 9 a.m. until 2:30 p.m., all buses start and end their trips in Aldershot GO Station. Passengers may board trains operating along the 01 Lakeshore West line to travel between Alderhot and Union Station.

90B / 90C Lakeshore East bus

After 2 a.m. Sunday, May 31, GO may detour buses, but GO Transit control and route supervisors will determine specific routes, depending on traffic conditions at the time that each bus is traveling.

For example, in previous years during this event, the westbound early-morning buses have operated along their regular route to Highway 401 and the Don Valley Parkway / Highway 404, then detoured:

westward along Highway 401;
southward along Leslie Street;
eastward along Eglinton Avenue East;
southward along Mount Pleasant Road, Jarvis and Lower Jarvis Streets;
westward along Lake Shore Boulevards East and West to Bay Street; and then
northward along Bay Street to the Union Station GO Bus Terminal.

westward along Highway 401;
northward along Yonge Street; and then
eastward into Finch GO Bus Terminal,
ending their trips.

29 Dufferin

Until 2 p.m. Sunday, May 31 1, all buses start and end their trips at the Dufferin (Gate) Loop. Buses do not operate along 29C branch to the Princes’ Gates through Exhibition Place.

Southbound buses skip their regular stops

  • on Saskatchewan Road east of Dufferin Street,
  • on Manitoba Drive east of Saskatchewan Road, at Nova Scotia Avenue and across from Exhibition Loop and
  • in Princes’ Gate Loop.

Northbound buses skip their regular stops

  • in Princes’ Gates Loop,
  • on Princes’ Boulevard beside the Direct Energy Centre,
  • on Nunavut Road north of Princes’ Boulevard,
  • on Nova Scotia Avenue at Manitoba Drive,
  • on Saskatchewan Road west of Manitoba Drive and at Dufferin Street.

329 Dufferin overnight

After 2 a.m. Sunday, May 31, southbound buses operate along their regular route to Dufferin Street and Springhurst Avenue, then detour:

westward along Springhurst;
southward along Fort Rouille Street;
eastward through the Dufferin (Gate) Loop,
northward along Dufferin;
eastward along Liberty and East Liberty Streets;
southward along Strachan Avenue; and then
westward along the loop access road into the Exhibition (East) Loop,
ending their trips.

Southbound buses skip their regular stops

  • on Saskatchewan Road east of Dufferin Street,
  • on Manitoba Drive east of Saskatchewan Road, at Nova Scotia Avenue and across from Exhibition Loop.

Northbound buses start their trips in the Exhibition (East) Loop, then proceed:

eastward along the loop access road;
northward along Strachan Avenue;
westward along East Liberty and Liberty Streets;
southward along Dufferin Street;
westward along Springhurst Avenue;
southward along Fort Rouille Street; and then
eastward through Dufferin (Gate) Loop to Dufferin,
resuming their regular route northward along Dufferin.

Northbound buses skip their regular stops

  • on Manitoba Drive beside Exhibition Loop and across from Nova Scotia Avenue,
  • on Saskatchewan Road west of Manitoba Drive and at Dufferin Street.

westward along the access road into the loop,
ending their trips.

From about 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. Sunday, May 31, expect delays as participants pass along York Mills Road at the Don Valley Parkway.


People In Motion 2015,

“Canada’s largest exhibition for people with disabilities” takes place from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. at Exhibition Place Saturday, May 30 and Sunday, May 31.

The TTC is also providing a Wheel-Trans shuttle bus from Bathurst Station every half hour both days. The first bus leaves Bathurst Station at 9:30 a.m. each day, while the last bus leaves at 4:30 p.m. The first bus leaves the Queen Elizabeth Building at 10 a.m., while the last bus leaves Bathurst Station at 5:30 p.m.


Inbound buses operate toward downtown.
