Grand River Transit revises services,
June 22



As summer arrives, fewer people travel to and from high schools, colleges and universities and many people take time off work to get out of town.

Grand River Transit is revising its services to reflect the changes in travel patterns for the summer, starting Monday, June 22. Most of these service changes end Tuesday, September 8.


GRT is revising service along these routes: 1 Stanley Park; 2 Forest Hill; 3 Ottawa South; 4 Glasgow, 7B Mainline via Weber; 7D Mainline via University; 7E Mainline via Columbia; 7F Mainline via Wilson, 7 Mainline late-night loop; 8 University via Weber; 8 University via Westmount; 9 Lakeshore; 9 Lakeshore late-night loop, 11 Country Hills; 13 Laurelwood; 17 Heritage Park, 21 Elmira; 25 Queen South; 27 Chicopee; 29 Keats Way; 52 Fairview Park Mall - Ainslie St Terminal, Cameron Heights high school specials, Eastwood high school special, Galt Collegiate Institue / Northview high school special, Galt Collegiate Institue / St. Benedict high school special, Huron Heights high school special, St. Mary’s high school special.


Specifically, GRT is: increasing service along a route; decreasing service along routes; decreasing the frequency of service along routes; revising service to colleges and universities; canceling extra service to high schools; and adjusting the schedule for buses operating along a route.


Increasing service along a route


21 Elmira

Starting Thursday, June 5, GRT operates extra buses between Conestoga Mall and St. Jacobs Farmers Market Thursdays only.

Southbound buses leave the St. Jacobs Farmers Market at 9:40 a.m. Thursdays and every 30 minutes until 1:40 p.m. They arrive in Conestoga Mall terminal at 9:48 a.m. and every 30 minutes until 1:48 p.m.

From the Farmers Market they proceed:

eastward along Farmers Market Road;
southward along King Street North; and then
eastward along Kraus Drive; and then
southward into Conestoga Mall Terminal,
ending their trips.

Northbound buses leave Conestoga Mall at 9:27 a.m. and every 30 minutes until 1:27 p.m. They arrive at the Market at 9:35 a.m. and every 30 minutes until 1:35 p.m.

Northbound buses leave Conestoga Mall Terminal, then proceed:

north- and westward along King Street North;
southward along Weber Street North; and then
eastward along Farmers Market Road to the St. Jacobs Farmers Market,
ending their trips.

Decreasing service along current routes

27 Chicopee

Friday, June 19 was the last day until September that GRT operates buses along the route Monday-to-Friday midday.

It’s cancelling the buses that usually leave Fairview Park Mall terminal at 9:30 a.m. and every 30 minutes until 2 p.m. for the summer.

Summer service ends and regular service resumes Tuesday, September 8.

17 Heritage Park

Friday, June 19 was the last day until September that GRT operates the southbound bus that usually leaves Lackner Boulevard south of Victoria Street North at 7:24 a.m. Mondays to Fridays. (The bus usually ends its trip in Fairview Park Mall Terminal at 7:51 a.m.)

Summer service ends and regular service resumes Tuesday, September 8.

9 Lakeshore late-night loop

Sunday, June 21 is the last day until September that GRT operates buses along the late-night loop early Friday, Saturday and Sunday mornings.

7 Mainline late-night loop

Sunday, June 21 is the last day until September that GRT operates buses along the late-night loop early Friday, Saturday and Sunday mornings.

Regular service resumes Friday, September 4.

GRT is also decreasing service along the 7A, 7D and 7E branches of the route for the summer.

7E Mainline via Columbia

Friday, June 19 was the last day until September that GRT operates the buses that usually leave the University of Waterloo Ring Road west of Hagey Boulevard at 8:10, 8:36, 9:05, 9:35 and 10:10 a.m. Mondays to Fridays. (The buses usually end their trips on Ring Road beside the William G. Davis Computer Sciences Centre at 8:18, 8:44, 9:13, 9:42 and 10:17 a.m.)

Summer service ends and regular service resumes Tuesday, September 8.

GRT is also canceling the late-night loop service along the route for the summer.

7A Mainline via Connaught

Friday, June 19 was the last day until September that GRT operates the Waterloo-bound bus that usually leaves Fairview Park Mall terminal at 7:41 a.m. Mondays to Fridays. (The bus usually arrives in Charles Street Terminal at 8:04 a.m. The bus leaves the terminal at 8:08 a.m. to operate along the 7D Mainline via University branch of the route.)

7D Mainline via University

Friday, June 19 was the last day until September that GRT operates the Waterloo-bound buses that usually leave Charles Street Terminal at 8:08 and 8:30 a.m. (The buses usually end their trips on the University of Waterloo Ring Road west of Hagey Boulevard at 8:40 and 9:10 a.m.)

Summer service ends and regular service resumes Tuesday, September 8.

GRT is also canceling the late-night loop service along the route for the summer.

7 Mainline via Weber

Friday, June 22 is the last day until September that GRT operated the Kitchener-bound bus that usually leaves Charles Street Terminal at 2:26 p.m. and ends its trip in Fairview Park Mall Terminal at 2:55 p.m.)

Summer service ends and regular service resumes Tuesday, September 8.

GRT is also cancelling the late-night loop service along the route for the summer.

61 Conestoga College - Cambridge Centre

Starting Monday, June 22, GRT decreases the frequency of service along the route Mondays to Fridays from about 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. for the summer. 11 Country Hills

Starting Monday, June 22, GRT decreases the frequency of service along the route Mondays to Fridays during rush hours for the summer. Buses drop off or pick up passengers at stops every 30 minutes, instead of every 15 minutes. (With summer schedules, GRT operates buses along the route every 30 minutes Mondays to Saturdays before about 6 p.m.)

Summer service ends and regular service resumes Tuesday, September 8.

2 Forest Hill

Starting Monday, June 22, GRT decreases the frequency of service along the route Mondays to Fridays from about 9 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. for the summer. Buses drop off or pick up passengers at stops every hour, instead of every 30 minutes, and all buses operate in both directions along Avalon Place and Southmoor Drive during this time period. Buses continue to operate every 30 minutes Mondays to Fridays during rush hours.

4 Glasgow

Starting Monday, June 22, GRT decreases the frequency of service along the route Monday-to-Friday midday for the summer. Buses drop off or pick up passengers at stops along the route every hour, instead of every 30 minutes, Mondays to Fridays from about 8 a.m. until 3 p.m. and after 7 p.m.

Summer service ends and regular service resumes Tuesday, September 8.

Starting Monday, June 22, GRT decreases the frequency of eastbound service along the route Mondays to Fridays during morning rush hours for the summer. Buses drop off or pick up passengers at stops every 30 minutes, instead of every 15 minutes. (With summer schedules, buses drop off or pick up passengers at stops along the route in both directions every 30 minutes all day Mondays to Fridays and before 6 p.m. Saturdays.)

Buses drop off or pick up passengers at stops every 30 minutes, instead of every 15 minutes. 1 Stanley Park

Starting Monday, June 22, GRT decreases the frequency of service along the route Mondays to Fridays during rush hours for the summer. Buses drop off or pick up passengers at stops every 30 minutes, instead of every 15 minutes. (With summer schedules, GRT operates buses along the route every 30 minutes Mondays to Saturdays before 6:30 p.m.)

Every second inbound *bus operates to Lackner Boulevard and Lorraine Avenue, starting with the bus that leaves Stanley Park Mall at 5:47 a.m. Mondays to Fridays. Every second *outboundbus operates to Lorraine Avenue and Lackner Boulevard, starting with the bus that leaves the Charles Street Terminal at 6:15 a.m. Mondays to Fridays.

All inbound buses operate along Cambridge Avenue, Sherwood Avenue, Smithson Street, Belleview Avenue and Becker Street during rush hours. Inbound buses do not serve the stop on Krug Street west of Cambridge Avenue during rush hours. All outbound buses operate along Becker Street, Belleview Avenue, Smithson Street, Sherwood Avenue and Cambridge Avenue during rush hours.

Adjusting the schedules of current routes


52 Fairview Park Mall - Ainslie Street Terminal

Starting Monday, June 22, GRT adjusts the schedules of buses operating “via Preston Parkway” to compensate for ongoing delays during construction on Fountain Street.
