The Pan Am Games take place in Toronto and the Greater Golden Horseshoe area from Friday July 10 until Sunday, July 26
Transit Toronto’s series of posts about special services that help you travel to and from the games and how the event also affect regular transit services continues with Niagara Region.
Games events take place in two venues in Niagara Region:
- the Royal Canadian Henley Course (HEN) in the Port Dalhousie area of St. Catherines for rowing competitions; and
- the Welland Pan Am Flatwater Centre (WFC) in the Dain City area of Welland. for canoe and kayak sprints.
As part of the games’ wayfinding system, these codes appear on transit stops, maps and other signs to help visitors travel to and from the venues.
GO Transit serves passengers traveling to both venues, operating earlier bus service along two routes.
These events have shorter schedules than many other Pan Am sports. Rowing takes place only from Saturday, July 11 until Wednesday, July 15 only. Canoeing and kayaking occurs just from Saturday, July 11 until Tuesday, July 14.
Spectators traveling to the events from Toronto and other locations east of Burlington generally should board trains operating along GO Transit’s 01 Lakeshore West line to travel to Burlington GO Station. At Burlington connect with GO buses operating along the 12 Niagara Falls / Burlington route. Exit buses at Fairview Mall terminal in St. Catharines, where express buses can whisk you to and from the games venues.
From Hamilton, board eastbound trains operating along the 01 Lakeshore West line, then exit at Burlington. Unfortunately, eastbound trains only operate Mondays to Fridays during rush hours. Instead, at most times, board eastbound buses operating along the 18 Lakeshore West route. Transfer to trains at Aldershot GO Station, then exit the trains at Burlington.
