Metrolinx and York Region contractors continue to work on the project to build a rapidway — bus-only lanes in the centre of the roadway.
This week, crews will be paving red asphalt along the rapidway at:
- the rapidway lanes on South Town Centre Boulevard, Cedarland Drive and Warden Avenue;
- the intersection of Highway 7 and Town Centre / South Town Centre Boulevards; and
- the rapidway lanes on Highway 7 at or near Woodbine Avenue, Allstate Parkway and Saddlecreek Drive.
They’ll work overnight from 7 p.m. tonight, Tuesday, August 4 until 5 a.m. tomorrow, Wednesday, August 5 and continue overnight nightly until 5 a.m. Friday, August 7.
First, crews are grinding and paving the roadway in the intersection of Highway 7 with Town Centre Boulevard / South Town Centre Boulevard.
- they’ll shift traffic to the north side of the intersection while they’re paving the south side of the intersection early Wednesday August 5.
- they’ll shift traffic to the south side while they’re paving the north side of the intersection early Thursday, August 6.
- they’ll restrict Highway 7 to just one lane for east- and westbound traffic in each case.
- they’ll temporarily block the east side of South Town Centre Boulevard from 1 until 5 a.m. Wednesday between Highway 7 and Clegg Road and shift traffic shifted to the west side of the road. They’ll keep one lane open for traffic in each direction.
- they’ll temporarily block Town Centre Boulevard between Cox Boulevard and Highway 7 from 10 p.m. Thursday to 1 a.m. Friday.
Second, crews are grinding and paving the rapidway lanes on South Town Centre Boulevard, Cedarland Drive and Warden Avenue.
- they’ll keep traffic lanes, sidewalks and crosswalks open on Cedarland and Warden.
- they’ll close Cedarland vivastation overnight from 7 p.m. Tuesday, August 4 until 1 a.m. Wednesday, August 5 and nightly until 1 a.m. Friday, August 7.
Third, crews are grinding and paving small areas of roadway near intersections with Woodbine Avenue, Allstate Parkway and Saddlecreek Drive.
- they’ll temporarily close traffic lane and restrict turns the intersections.
- they’ll use heavy equipment to grind and pave the road — expect noise.
Sidewalks and crosswalks remain open through all parts of this work and and “paid-duty” York Regional Police officers and traffic-control staff will be on site to guide pedestrians and drivers.
