After the ParaPan Am Games...



What happens to extra services, route diversions and other changes that transit agencies introduced for the Pan Am and Para PanAm Games once the Games are over?

Some temporary route diversions or extra services continue. But most stopped permanently yesterday, Saturday, August 15.

Saturday, August 15 was the last day that GO operated the early-morning bus that left Port Credit GO Station at 12:15 a.m. and operated express — without stopping — to Union Station GO Bus Terminal. It ended its trip in Union at 12:40 a.m

172 Cherry St

Until Wednesday, September 30, the City of Toronto continues to close:

  • Cherry Street between Mill Street and Lake Shore Boulevard East.

The TTC continues to revise the path for buses operating along the route, while the street is closed.

Westbound buses operate along their regular route to Cherry Street and Lake Shore Boulevard East, then detour:

westward along Lake Shore East; and then
northward along Parliament Street to Mill Street,
resuming their regular route northward along Parliament.

Westbound buses skip these stops until Thursday, October 1:

  • on Mill Street west of Cherry Street and at Trinity and Parliament Streets.

Instead, westbound buses drop off or pick up passengers at a temporary stop

  • on Parliament Street at Mill Street.

Eastbound buses reverse the westbound detour routing.

Eastbound buses skip these stops:

  • on Mill Street east of Parliament Street and at Trinity and Cherry Streets.

Instead, eastbound buses drop off or pick up passengers at a temporary stop

Saturday, August 15, was the last day that the TTC detoured buses to and from City Hall and Nathan Phillips Square along the temporary 172C branch of the route.

Until Labour Day, Monday, September 7, buses continue to operate every 10 minutes at all times of the week, except overnight.

329 Dufferin overnight

Until Tuesday, September 8, Exhibition Place is closing most of its streets to through traffic to accommodate various events, including the Canadian National Exhibition.

The TTC is temporarily revising the path for buses operating along the route, while the street is closed. Buses operating along the route start and end their trips in Dufferin Gate Loop, instead of Princes’ Gate Loop.

Southbound buses skip their regular stops

  • on Saskatchewan Road east of Dufferin Street,
  • on Manitoba Drive east of Saskatchewan Road, at Nova Scotia Avenue and across from Exhibition Loop and
  • in Princes’ Gate Loop.

Northbound buses skip their regular stops

  • in Princes’ Gate Loop.
  • on Manitoba Drive beside Exhibition Loop and across from Nova Scotia Avenue and
  • on Saskatchewan Road west of Manitoba Drive and at Dufferin Street.

38 Highland Creek

The TTC is increasing the hours of service and both increasing and decreasing the frequency of service along different parts of the route. It’s also temporarily reinstating the 38A branch of the route, with short-turning buses providing extra service between the University of Toronto’s Scarborough campus and Scarborough Centre Station.

Starting Sunday, July 12, TTC buses operate along the route earlier Sundays and holidays, with buses operating along the entire route between Rouge Hill GO Station and Scarborough Centre Station before 8 a.m. Buses drop off or pick up passengers at stops every 12 minutes.

The TTC’s also increasing the frequency of service along the route after 8 a.m., with buses dropping off or picking up passengers at stops along the route:

  • every 10 minutes, instead of every 12 minutes.

Starting Monday, July 13, the TTC reinstates the 38A branch of the route.

By reinstating the 38A branch of the route, the TTC generally increases the frequency of service west of the University of Toronto’s Scarborough campus and decreases the frequency of service east of U of T Scarborough.

Buses drop off or pick up passengers west of U of T Scarborough:

  • every 7½ minutes, instead of every 11 minutes, during morning rush hours;
  • every 6 minutes 8 seconds, instead of every 10 minutes, from about 9 a.m. until 3 p.m.;
  • every 6 minutes, instead of every 10 minutes, during afternoon rush hours.

They serve stops east of U of T Scarborough:

  • every 15 minutes, instead of every 11 minutes, during morning rush hours;
  • every 12 minutes 15 seconds, instead of every 10 minutes, from about 9 a.m. until 3 p.m.;
  • every 12 minutes, instead of every 10 minutes, during afternoon rush hours.

Saturday, August 15 was the last day that buses operated to and from Aquatics Centre loop.

116 Morningside

Saturday, August 15 was the last day that the TTC detoured south- and westbound buses to avoid congestion near the Aquatic Centre during the games.

198 U of T Scarborough rocket

The TTC continues to temporarily increase the hours of service and increase the frequency of service along the route.

From Thursday, July 9 until Friday, September 4, buses drop off or pick up passengers along the route:

  • every 10 minutes, instead of every 12 minutes, Mondays to Fridays before 7 p.m.; and
  • every 10 minutes, instead of every 15 minutes, after 7 p.m.

From Saturday, July 11 until Labour Day, Monday, September 7, the TTC temporarily operates service along the route Saturdays, Sundays and holidays.

Buses drop off or pick up passengers at stops along the route:

  • every 15 minutes before 8 a.m.; and
  • every 10 minutes after 8 a.m.

Starting today, Sunday, August 16, buses resume their regular route and no longer loop at the Aquatics Centre.

Saturday, August 15 was the last day that buses operated along the temporary route.

“Until late August”, the City of Toronto is closing:

  • Hoskin Avenue between Devonshire Place and Queen’s Park Crescent West.

The TTC has revised the path for buses operating along the route, while the street is closed.

Eastbound buses operate along their regular route to Harbord Street and Spadina Avenue, then detour:

northward along Spadina;
eastward along Bloor Street West; and then
southward along Queen’s Park and Queen’s Park Crescent West to Hoskin Avenue,
resuming their regular route southward along Queen’s Park West.

Eastbound buses skip their regular stops

  • on Harbord Street at Huron and St. George Streets and
  • on Hoskin Avenue beside Wycliffe College.

Instead, eastbound buses drop off or pick up passengers at temporary stops

  • on Spadina Avenue at Sussex Avenue,
  • on Bloor Street West at St. George Street, across from Bedford Road and at Queen’s Park,
  • on Queen’s Park across from Charles Street West [beside Museum Station] and
  • on Queen’s Park Crescent West at Hoskin Avenue.

Westbound buses operate along their regular route to Queen’s Park Crescents East and West and Queen’s Park, then detour:

northward along Queen’s Park;
westward along Bloor Street West; and then
southward along Spadina Avenue to Harbord Street,
resuming their regular route westward along Harbord.

Instead, westbound buses drop off or pick up passengers at temporary stops

  • on Queen’s Park Crescent East north of St. Joseph Street
  • on Queen’s Park north of Charles Street West [beside Museum Station],
  • on Bloor Street West at Bedford Road and St. George Street and
  • on Spadina Road at Sussex Avenue and Harbord Street.

1 Yonge - University subway

Sunday, August 9 was the last Sunday that the TTC operates trains along the line before 9 a.m. Sundays.

Starting tonight, Sunday, August 17, the TTC resumes its long-standing project to upgrade the tunnel liners along the line north of Lawrence Station. Buses operate between Finch and Lawrence Station after about 12:30 a.m. Mondays to Saturdays.

Saturday, August 15 was the last day that the TTC temporarily increase the hours of service to include Saturdays, Sundays and holidays.

Saturday, August 15 was the last day that the TTC temporarily revised the path for buses operating along the route to serve the Aquatics Centre.

Until Sunday, September 6,

York University is temporarily closing:

  • Ian Macdonald Boulevard between Shoreham Drive and Founders Road

to accommodate events on campus.

The TTC is revising the path for northbound buses operating along the route, while the street is closed.

Northbound buses operate along their regular route to Sentinel and The Pond Roads, then detour:

eastward along The Pond; and then
northward along Ian Macdonald Boulevard to York Boulevard,
resuming their regular route westward along York into the Harry W. Arthurs Common.

Northbound buses skip their regular stops

  • on The Pond Road across from Sentinel Road and at Arboretum Lane and
  • on Ian Macdonald Boulevard across from Northwest Gate, Founders Road and The Chimneystack Road.

The TTC continues to operate more frequent service along the route Mondays to Fridays before about 10 p.m. than it did before the games.

Buses drop off or pick up passengers at stops east of Downsview Station:

  • every 6 minutes 40 seconds, instead of every 8½ minutes, during rush hours;
  • every 6½ minutes, instead of every 10 minutes, from about 9 a.m. until 3 p.m.; and
  • every 9 minutes, instead of every 10 minutes from about 7 until 10 p.m.

They serve stops west and north of Downsview Station:

  • every 3 minutes 20 seconds, instead of every 4 minutes 15 seconds, during rush hours;
  • every 3 minutes 15, instead of every 5 minutes, from about 9 a.m. until 3 p.m.; and
  • every 4½ minutes, instead of every 5 minutes from about 7 until 10 p.m.

York University is temporarily closing:

YRT is revising the path for eastbound buses operating along the route, while the street is closed.

Eastbound buses operate along their regular route to Jane Street and Steeles Avenue West, then detour:

eastward along Steeles West; and then
southward along Founders Road to Ian Macdonald Boulevard,
resuming their regular route southward along Ian Macdonald.

Buses drop off or pick up passengers at all regular vivastations.
