Davis Drive rapidway construction:
August 21

Metrolinx and York Region contractors continue the project to build a rapidway — bus-only lanes in the centre of the roadway — along Davis Drive in Newmarket.

Tomorrow, Friday, August 21, from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m., crews are shifting traffic lanes into their final layout between Southlake Regional Health Centre and the Tannery. Once they’ve finished work tomorrow, permanent changes to how traffic moves along Davis or turns onto or off side streets and business properties come into effect for motorists.

  • You can only to turn right into and out of all side streets and driveways in this area.
  • After crews shift the traffic lanes, shift, they’ll remove the temporary cut-through lanes at Bolton Avenue and 567 Davis.
  • However, if you’re drive west- or eastbound along Davis, you can u-turn at Prospect Street / Lundy’s Lane.
  • You can no longer turn left onto Bolton Avenue. You can only turn right off or onto Bolton.
  • To access Bolton Avenue, or the Medical Arts Building or any of the properties on the north side between 665A and 603 Davis from the west, u-turn at the temporary cut-through lane at 665A Davis.
  • To access Bayview Parkway, Dixon Medical Centre or 567 Davis from the west, u-turn at Prospect Street / Lundy’s Lane and make a U-turn.
  • To access Southlake Regional Health Centre’s Davis entrance from the east, u-turn at Prospect Street / Lundy’s Lane..
  • To access Charles Street, Taylor Funeral Home [524 Davis] or 540 Davis plaza from the east, continue to u-turn at the Tannery.
  • “Paid-duty” York Regional Police officers will be on-site to manage traffic flow.
  • Expect traffic delays and construction-related noise.

  • You can also u-turn at intersections with signals, when the left-turn arrow lights up.

Also expect delays for York Region Transit buses operating along these routes:

  • 44 Bristol;
  • 50 Queensway;
