Weekend events affect transit services,
August 20, 21, 22, 23



The annual Canadian National Exhibition kicks off this weekend and heads the list of special events affecting transit service.

The events take place in Brampton, the Georgetown area of Halton Hills, Hamilton, the Lindsay area of Kawartha Lakes, Markham, Milton, the North York area of Toronto, Oshawa, Richmond Hill and central Toronto.

Saturday morning and afternoon to accommodate the event.

York Region Transit is detouring buses while the street is closed, and also operating shuttle buses so that event-goers can take advantage of free parking off-site.

The Town of Richmond Hill is closing

  • Mill Street between Leisure Lane and Trench Street / Wood Lane

Thursday evening to accommodate the event.

York Region Transit is detouring buses operating along this route, while the street is closed:

83 Trench

After 6 p.m. Thursday, August 20, southbound buses operate along their regular route to Mill Street and Leisure Lane, then detour:

southward along Leisure; and then
eastward along Richmond Street to Trench Street,
resuming their regular route southward along Trench.

Southbound buses skip their regular stops

  • on Mill Street at Trench Street and
  • on Trench Street at Richmond Street.

Northbound buses reverse the southbound detour routing.

Northbound buses skip their regular stop

  • on Trench Street at Mill Street.

Big on Bloor Festival

The City of Toronto is closing

  • Bloor Street West between Lansdowne Avenue and Dufferin Street

to accommodate the annual event for BIG: the Bloor Improvement Group and Bloordale Village Business Improvement Area.

Saturday and Sunday.

The event affects TTC services.

300 Bloor - Danforth overnight

Sunday, August 23, eastbound buses operate along their regular route to Bloor Street West and Lansdowne Avenue, then detour:

northward along Lansdowne;
eastward along Dupont Street; and then
southward along Dufferin Street to Bloor West,
resuming their regular route eastward along Bloor.

Canadian National Exhibition

Time for corn dogs and cotton candy, ice-cream waffle sandwiches, mini-doughnuts and other treats as the “Ex” starts its 134th season Friday, August 21 and continues until Labour Day, Monday, September 7.

The TTC is increasing service to handle the crowds heading to the “Ex”.

511 Bathurst

From Friday, August 21 until Labour Day, Monday, September 7, more frequent service and faster boarding at Exhibition (East) Loop.

29 Dufferin

From Friday, August 21 until Labour Day, Monday, September 7, more frequent service and faster boarding at Dufferin Gate Loop.

No service along the 29C branch to and from Princes’ Gate Loop. All buses start and end their trips in Dufferin Gate Loop.

193 Exhibition rocket

From Friday, August 21 until Labour Day, Monday, September 7, express service between Dundas West Station and Dufferin Gate Loop. Faster boarding at Dufferin Gate Loop.

509 Harbourfront

From Friday, August 21 until Labour Day, Monday, September 7, more frequent service and faster boarding at Exhibition (East) Loop.


Warriors Day Parade

Warriors Day, Saturday, August 22, at the Canadian National Exhibition, past and present members of Canada’s Armed Forces march through the Princes’ Gates and along Princes’ Boulevard in Exhibition Place.

Veterans of Canada’s wars and peacekeeping missions gain free admission to the “Ex”.

Many local transit agencies — including Brampton Transit, Durham Region Transit, GO Transit, Grand River Transit, Guelph Transit, MiWay, the TTCand York Region Transit — offer free rides to vets and their companions.
