Weekend events affect transit services,
August 27, 28, 29, 30



Update — Saturday, August 29, 8:41 a.m.: GO is adding extra trains from Exhibition GO Station late tonight / early tomorrow. The TTC has confirmed detour routing for buses operating along the 53 Steeles East route for Tamil Fest.


Buskers are a feature of the annual Canadian National Exhibition, but this weekend, you’ll also find them front and centre at another special event in downtown Toronto.

Events in Brampton, the Georgetown area of Halton Hills, central Hamilton, the Lindsay area of Kawartha Lakes, the Malvern area of Toronto, Richmond Hill, central Toronto and the Winona area of Hamilton affect transit services this weekend.

Brampton Farmers Market

Saturday mornings and early afternoons until October 10, the City of Brampton is closing

  • Main Streets North and South between Nelson and Wellington Streets

to accommodate the city’s weekly farmers market.

Brampton Transit is detouring service during the market.


2 Main

From 5:30 a.m. until 2 p.m. Saturday, August 29, southbound buses operate along their regular route to Main Street North and Nelson Street, then detour:

westward along Nelson Street West, passing, but not stopping at, the Downtown Transit Terminal,
southward along George Streets North and South; and then
eastward along Wellington Street West to Main South,
resuming their regular route southward along Main.

Southbound buses skip their regular stop

  • on Main Street North at Queen Street West and
  • on Main Street South at Wellington Street West.

Northbound buses reverse the detour routing.

Northbound buses skip their regular stops

  • on Main Streets South and North at Wellington Street, John Street, north of Queen Street and at Theatre Lane.

56 Springbrook

From 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. Saturday, August 29, southbound buses start their trips on George Street North across from Diplock Lane, then proceed:

southward along George North to Queen Street West,
resuming their regular route westward along Queen West.

Southbound buses skip their regular stops

  • on George Street North north of Diplock Lane,
  • on Main Street South at Wellington Street West and
  • on Wellington Street West at George Street South.

Instead, southbound buses drop off or pick up passengers at a temporary stop

  • on George Street North across from Diplock Lane.

Northbound buses operate along their regular route to Queen Street West and Mill Street North, then detour:

northward along Mill North; and then
eastward along Nelson Street West to George Street North,
ending their trips.

24 Van Kirk

From 6 a.m. until 2 p.m. Saturday, August 29, southbound buses operate along their regular route to Main Street North and Nelson Street East, then detour:

eastward along Nelson East; and then
southward along George Street North to a temporary stop across from Diplock Lane,
ending their trips.

Southbound buses skip their regular stops

  • on Main Street South at Wellington Street West,
  • on Wellington Street West at George Street South and
  • on George Street North north of Diplock Lane.

Northbound buses start their trips on George Street North across from Diplock Lane, then proceed:

southward along George North;
westward along Queen Street West;
northward along Mill Street North; and then
eastward along Nelson Street West to George North,
resuming their regular route eastward along Nelson West.

Downtown Georgetown Farmers Market

Saturday mornings until October 16, the Town of Halton Hills is closing

  • Main Street South Georgetown between James and Church Streets

to accommodate the Georgetown Central Business Improvement Area’s weekly market.

GO Transit is detouring service during the weekly market.

31 Guelph / Georgetown / Toronto bus

From 6:30 a.m. until 1 p.m. Saturday, August 29, eastbound buses from Guelph operate along their regular route to Main and Guelph Streets (Provincial Highway 7) and then proceed:

southeastward along Guelph to Mill Street,
resuming their regular route southwestward along Guelph.

Eastbound buses skip their regular stops

  • on Main Street South opposite Cross Street and at Wesleyan Street and
  • on Mill Street at Guelph Street.

Westbound buses reverse the detour routing.

You can ride any HSR bus free of fare to the Hamilton Tiger-Cats game against the Montreal Alouettes , Thursday, August 27 at 7 p.m. — if you hold a valid ticket to the game.

2 Barton

Buses serve all local stops between the Hamilton GO Centre, downtown Hamilton and Barton Street East at Lenister Avenue North — just one block north of Tim Hortons Field.

10 B-Line express

From 4:30 until 7:30 p.m. Thursday, August 27, express buses stop near the stadium. Westbound buses stop on King Street East at Balsam Avenue North. Eastbound buses stop on Main Street East at Balsam Avenue South. Walk northward along Balsam to the stadium.

3 Cannon

Buses serve all local stops between the Hamilton GO Centre, downtown Hamilton and Cannon Street East at Balsam Avenue North — just south of Tim Hortons Field.

Tiger-Cats Express shuttles

From about 5 until 7 p.m., Thursday, August 27, free HSR shuttle buses also speedily transport ticket-holders from four terminals across the city to the stadium. After the game is over, they’ll shuttle you back again. You can view the schedule for Saturday’s shuttle service here. (.pdf)

Tamil Fest

The City of Toronto is closing:

  • Morningside Avenue between Neilson Road / Nightstar Avenue and Staines Road / Finch Avenue East

all day Saturday and Sunday to accommodate the first annual event.

The TTC is detouring buses while the street is closed.

116 Morningside

From 6 a.m. Saturday, August 28 until 5 a.m. Monday, August 31, westbound buses start their trips on Nightstar Road at Cranberry Drive, then proceed:

westward along Nightstar;
southward along Neilson Road; and then
eastward along Finch Avenue East to Morningside Avenue,
resuming their regular route southward along Morningside.

  • on Morningside Avenue south of Neilson Road, across from Plantain Way and at Finch Avenue East.

Instead, westbound buses drop off or pick up passengers at temporary stops

  • on Nightstar Road at Cranberry Drive, Pogonia Street and Wharnsby Drive and
  • on Finch Avenue East at Blackbird Gate and Morningside Avenue.

Eastbound buses operate along their regular route to Nightstar Road at Cranberry Drive,

northward along Mantis; and then

resuming their regular route northward along Morningside.

Westbound buses skip their regular stops

  • on Morningside Avenue north of Staines Road and Plantain Way.

Instead, westbound buses drop off or pick up passengers at temporary stops

  • on Mantis Road at Poppy Place [north] and
  • on Nightstar Road at Cranberry Drive, Pogonia Street and Wharnsby Drive.

Eastbound buses operate along their regular route to Staines and Mantis Roads,
ending their trips.

Canadian National Exhibition

The “Ex“‘s 134th season continues until Labour Day, Monday, September 7.

This weekend, GO Transit operates regular service to and from Exhibition GO Station, but the TTC is increasing service to handle the crowds heading to the “Ex”.

01 Lakeshore West

Trains operate every 30 minutes to and from Exhibition GO Station at most times of the week. Service is even more frequent Mondays to Fridays during rush hours.

GO is adding an extra westbound train leaving Exhibition at 12:13 a.m and dropping off or picking up passengers at all stations to Aldershot GO Station.

09 Lakeshore East

GO is adding an extra eastbound train, leaving Exhibition at 11:30 p.m. and in Union Station at 11:45 p.m. The train drops off or picks up passengers at all stations to Oshawa GO Station.

12 Niagara Falls

Both Niagara-bound and Toronto-bound trains stop at Exhibition GO Station Friday, August 28, Saturday, August 29 and Sunday, August 30.

Winona


Winona Peach Festival

Tthe Hamilton Street Railway is again operating shuttle buses to take you to the annual festival and back again. This year, the buses are free of fare.

Winona Peach Festival shuttle

Free shuttle buses operate between Eastgate Terminal and Winona Park Friday evening, all day Saturday and Sunday morning and afternoon.

Westbound buses start their trips on Parkmanor Drive at the south end of Winona Park, then proceed:

westward along Parkmanor;
southward along Milliken Drive; and then
westward along Queenston Road (City Highway 8) to Eastgate Terminal,
ending their trips.

Eastbound buses start their trips at Eastgate Terminal, then proceed:

eastward along Queenston Road (City Highway 8);
northward along Maple Gate Drive; and then
westward along Parkmanor Drive to the south side of Winona Park,
ending their trips.

Westbound buses leave Winona every 12 minutes from 5:24 until 11:30 p.m. Friday, August 28, every 12 minutes from 10:24 a.m. until 11:30 p.m. Saturday, August 29 and every 12 minutes from 10:24 a.m. until 7 p.m. Sunday, August 30.

Eastbound buses leave Eastgate at 4:30, 4:45 and 5 p.m., then every 12 minutes from 5 until 8 p.m. Friday, every 12 minutes from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m. Saturday and from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. Sunday.
