Metrolinx and York Region contractors continue getting ready to build a rapidway — bus-only lanes in the centre of the roadway — along Highway 7 West from west of Jane Street to east of Keele Street.
This weekend, crews are paving the south side of Highway 7 between Creditstone Road and the bridge carrying Highway 7 traffic over the Canadian National Railway tracks.
They’ll close traffic lanes and shift all traffic to the north side of the roadway 24 hours a day from 7 p.m. Friday, September 25 until 5 a.m. Monday, September 28.
As crews work “around the clock” to finish paving, they’ll:
- block the south side of Highway 7 to traffic between Creditstone Road and the CN bridge.
- shift traffic to the north side of the roadway, with one lane open in each direction between Maplecrete Road to the CN bridge.
- restrict left turns at Creditstone and Highway 7.
- permit southbound right turns from Creditstone onto Highway 7.
- block Costa Road to traffic — but only while they’re paving and, afterwards, painting lines on the roadway.
“Paid-duty” York Regional Police officers are on site to guide pedestrians and motorists.
York Region Transit may relocate bus stops during this work. Directional signs will guide passengers to the nearest available bus stop.
Expect construction-related noise and delays.
During Highway 7 West rapidway construction, also expect delays for:
- Brampton Transit Züm express buses operating along the 501 Züm Queen route;
- TTC buses operating along the 35D Jane and 107 Keele North routes; and
- York Region Transit Viva express buses operating along the Viva orange route and YRT local buses operating along the 20 Jane and 77 Highway 7 routes.
