Metrolinx and York Region contractors continue to work on the project to build a rapidway — bus-only lanes in the centre of the roadway.
Crews will be painting crosswalks as part of the finshing touches in their work, as this construction project winds down. In total, they’ll be painting in four intersections near Warden Avenue in Markham.
From 7 p.m. tonight, Monday, September 28 until 6 a.m. tomorrow, Tuesday, September 29 and continuing overnight nightly, they’ll work in these intersections in this order:
- Highway 7 and South Town Centre / Town Centre Boulevard;
- South Town Centre Boulevard and Clegg Road;
- South Town Centre Boulevard and Cedarland Drive; and
- Warden Avenue and the IBM road.
Crews will:
- print painted crosswalk markings at intersections;
- keep sidewalks, bike lanes and bus stops will remain open, with flag persons helping to guide you around areas where work is underway.
- temporarily close the sections of crosswalks as they paint them.
- keep the Viva rapidways open for service uring regular hours.
- complete work quickly to reduce disruption.
Expect construction-related noise from equipment.
Work continues until 6 a.m. October 2.
Throughout Highway 7 rapidway construction, expect delays for:
- TTC buses operating along the 24 Victoria Park, 68 Warden and 224 Victoria Park North routes; and
- YRT buses operating along the Viva green, Viva pink, Viva purple, 1 Highway 7, 224B Woodbine, 300 Business express and 302 Unionville express routes.
