Davis Drive rapidway construction
continues, October 22 to 26

Update — Friday, October 21, 6:06 p.m.: Due to inclement weather, the contractors have rescheduled paving from Saturday, October 24 until Monday, October 26.

Update — Wednesday, October 21, 5:37 p.m.: Due to inclement weather, the contractors have rescheduled some of last week’s work to this week. That, in turn, has impacted this week’s schedule. As they are in the final stages before opening the rapidway, they may reschedule some planned activities or add more work to take advantage of favourable weather or available crews so they can finish the work as soon as possible.

Metrolinx and York Region contractors continue the project to build a rapidway — bus-only lanes in the centre of the roadway — along Davis Drive in Newmarket.

(Updated / New information — Wednesday, October 21, 5:37 p.m.) Crews finish paving black asphalt on the westbound lanes between Bayview Parkway and west of Main Street and the eastbound lanes between 736 Davis Drive and east of Alexander Road Thursday, October 22, from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m..

They’ll:

  • reduce Davis Drive to just one lane in each direction where they’re paving.
  • temporarily shift traffic to the centre rapidway lanes. (Traffic barrels and “paid-duty” York Regional Police officers help motorists navigate through the work zone.
  • maintain pedestrian access to businesses. (Signs help guide you to your destination.)

GO Transit and York Region Transit continue serving Davis. They may temporarily relocate or close bus stops as work progresses. Look for signs to guide you to the nearest available bus stop.

Temporary parking is available on side streets.

(Updated / New information — Wednesday, October 21, 5:37 p.m.) The work blocks Bayview Parkway and Alexander Road to traffic at Davis Drive Thursday, October 22.

Crews are paving red asphalt at intersections on Davis between Patterson Street / Roxborough Road and Main Street starting Thursday, October 22 Friday, October 23.

Thursday, October 22Friday, October 23 from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m., crews are:

  • restricting traffic between Huron Heights Drive / Alexander Road and Main Street, as crews pave the rapidway and intersections.
  • blocking motorists from turning left through the intersections. (North- and southbound drivers can only turn right onto Davis. You can U-turn only at Lorne Avenue and Huron Heights Drive / Alexander Road.)
  • reducing Davis Drive to just one lane in each direction, where they’re paving.

  • Main Street;

  • Lundy’s Lane / Prospect Street;
  • Entrance to Southlake Regional Health Centre;
  • Patterson Street / Roxborough Road;
  • narrowing the entrance to Tannery Mall as they pave the area, but still maintaining access. (They’ll paving in this location after 8:30 a.m. and before 4:30 p.m. so they don’t block passengers heading to and from trains at Newmarket GO Station.
