Metrolinx and York Region contractors continue getting ready to build a rapidway — bus-only lanes in the centre of the roadway — along Highway 7 West from west of Jane Street to east of Keele Street.
Phase one of rapidway construction along Highway 7 West continues in the Vaughan Metropolitan Centre area between west of Jane Street and east of Keele Street. Now, contractors are getting ready to start working on phase two. Phase two includes building rapidway lanes between the intersection of Centre Street with Highway 7 and Yonge Street, along the Viva purple route on Centre and Bathurst Streets. It also includes rapidway lanes in western Vaughan between Helen Street and Edgeley Boulevard. Starting this month, crews are removing a vacant building that York Region owns on Centre Street, just west of New Westminster Drive. Removing the building allow contractors to build a future driveway.
Over the summer, Metrolinx and York worked with Habitat for Humanity to salvage all available furniture and building materials from the property. They donated nearly 80 items Habitat for Humanity’s **ReStore, where Habitat will sell the items to help fund Habitat homebuilding projects.
Monday, October 26 morning, crews are shifting traffic to the south side of the road between the bridge over the Canadian National Railway tracks and Keele Street to allow them to continue working on the north side of the bridge.
They continue to restrict traffic to just one lane in each direction between Costa Road and Keele Street.
Also starting October 26, crews are locating underground utilities along Highway 7 between Helen Street and Edgeley Boulevard / Interchange Way and along Bathurst and Centre Streets. Please see the details below about temporary, rolling lane closures:
From 9:30 a.m. until 3:30 p.m., they’re
- using a a hydrovac truck to locate utilities.
- temporarily blocking curb lanes.
Expect noise.
Locating utilities along Highway 7 west and Bathurst and Centre Streets continues for about eight weeks or until about December 18.
During Highway 7 West rapidway construction, also expect delays for:
- Brampton Transit Züm express buses operating along the 501 Züm Queen route;
- TTC buses operating along the 35D Jane and 107 Keele North routes; and
- York Region Transit Viva express buses operating along the Viva orange route and YRT local buses operating along the 20 Jane and 77 Highway 7 routes.
