Eglinton Crosstown LRT -- Mt Pleasant:
Headwall construction continues

eglinton crosstown logo.pngMetrolinx contractors are working to build the future Eglinton Crosstown light rail transit line.

In this phase of construction, crews continue building the headwalls for the future station at Mount Pleasant Road. Headwalls are underground support walls at the east and west ends of the station. After preparing the the site, crews will install these underground station headwalls before they can start to build the the twin tunnels.

After building the headwalls under the north side of Eglinton Avenue East, they’re shifting the work zone to the south side of the street. Construction east of Mount Pleasant starts this week. Construction west of Mount Pleasant starts as soon as early November.

During this stage of construction, crews will set up a work zone on the south side of Eglinton East between Falcon Street and Redpath Avenue.

During this stage:

  • Motorists still can’t turn left onto and from Falcon Street, **Taunton Avenue and Brownlow Avenue.
  • Eastbound motorists on the curb-lane of Eglinton East approaching Brownlow, must exit southbound onto Brownlow.
  • Westbound motorists on Eglinton can’t turn left onto Lillian Street.
  • Motorists travel in both directions only on the north side of Eglinton.
  • Motorists travel only in one lane in each direction only on the north side of Eglinton.

Traffic cones and concrete barriers with fencing separate traffic from the construction zone.

Also during this stage of construction, crews are maintaining pedestrian access to sidewalks on both sides of Eglinton. They’re also keeping access to all businesses open.

The TTC may relocate west- and eastbound bus stops in the area for the safety of transit riders. Signs will direct you to the nearest available bus stop.

The City of Toronto is restricting on-street parking along the north and south sides of Eglinton in the construction zone.

The City has also permitted contractors to work from 7 a.m. until 11 p.m., seven days a week, when necessary.

Expect noise and vibration.

Work continues for about three months or until about January 31, 2016.

During construction of the future station at Mount Pleasant Road, TTC passengers should expect delays for buses operating along these routes:

  • 34 Eglinton East;
  • 51 Leslie;
  • 54 Lawrence East;
  • 56 Leaside;
