Rapidway on Highway 7 West:
More construction, starting November 7

Metrolinx and York Region contractors continue getting ready to build a rapidway — bus-only lanes in the centre of the roadway — along Highway 7 West from west of Jane Street to east of Keele Street.

Starting Saturday, November 7, crews are upgrading the roadway, including paving on the south side of Highway 7 betweeen Hillside Avenue and the bridge for GO Transit’s Barrie line tracks.

From 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. each day, crews are:

  • restricting Highway 7 traffic to just one eastbound lane between Hillside Avenue and the GO bridge, as they complete road work and paving.
  • temporarily disrupt access to driveways along Highway 7. Flag persons are on-site to help direct motorists and pedestrians.

YRT may relocate some bus stops during this work. If it closes a bus stop, directional signs guide passengers to the nearest available bus stop.

Expect construction-related noise from equipment and trucks.

Crews aren’t working Sunday, November 8.

Paving and road work on Highway 7 between Hillside Avenue and the GO bridge continues until November 12.

During Highway 7 West rapidway construction, also expect delays for:

  • Brampton Transit Züm express buses operating along the 501 Züm Queen route;
  • TTC buses operating along the 35D Jane and 107 Keele North routes; and
  • York Region Transit Viva express buses operating along the Viva orange route and YRT local buses operating along the 20 Jane and 77 Highway 7 routes.
