Expanding GO rail corridor in Agincourt:
Public meeting, December 8

Scarborough-Markham_Map-170x360.jpgMetrolinx is planning regional express rail service along many of the GO Transit rail lines, including the Stouffville line. Regional express rail will result in faster, more frequent service for GO passengers, but also requires Metrolinx to widen its railway-track corridors.

It proposes to expand a segment of the corridor between Kennedy Road in Markham — just north of Milliken GO Station and Steeles Avenue East — and Marilyn Avenue in Scarborough — just north of Agincourt GO Station and Sheppard Avenue East.

Today, most of this railway corridor segment has just a single track, limiting what Metrolinx calls “the quality and quantity of Stouffville line GO Train service we can provide to the residents of Scarborough, Markham and Whitchurch - Stouffville.” As it completes its plans to improve the rail infrastructure over the next ten years, Metrolinx says, it can “phase in expanded service, with electric trains running over this portion of the corridor every 15 minutes (or better) in both directions throughout the day.”

Starting summer 2016, Metrolinx plans to start building a second track along this section of the line.

Metrolinx organized a public meeting November 3 to let residents living near this portion of the Stouffville line learn more about the project and how it affects them.

It’s hosting a second meeting this week so more people can attend an information session.

The meeting takes place:

Tuesday, December 8

The site is wheel-chair accessible. Chinese translators will be available.
