Bathurst and Spadina bridge inspections:
TTC detours, December 9, 10, 11



The TTC is closing its streetcar tracks on two bridges north of Lake Shore Boulevard West overnight Wednesday, December 9 / Thursday, December 10 and overnight Thursday / Friday, December 11 to accommodate ‘bridge inspections’.

(The TTC has not confirmed who is inspecting the bridges — but it’s likely to City of Toronto staff examining the bridges that support the Frederick G. Gardiner Expressway.)


Overnight, from 9:30 p.m. Wednesday until 5 a.m. Thursday, the inspectors are working on the Bathurst Street bridge.

The TTC is detouring streetcars operating along this route:

  • 511 Bathurst.

Shuttle buses replace streetcars south of Bathurst Street and King Street West.

It’s also replacing streetcars with buses along this route:

  • 509 Harbourfront.

Buses operating along the 310 Bathurst overnight route continue regular service.

Overnight, from 9:30 p.m. Thursday until 5 a.m. Friday, the inspectors are working on the Lower Spadina Avenue bridge.

The TTC is detouring streetcars operating along these routes:

  • 317 Spadina overnight; and
  • 510 Spadina.

Shuttle buses replace streetcars south of Spadina Avenue and King Street West.

The TTC is also replacing streetcars with buses along this route:

  • 509 Harbourfront.

511 Bathurst

From 9:30 p.m. Wednesday, December 9 until 5 a.m. Thursday, December 10, southbound streetcars operate along their regular route to Bathurst Street and King Street West, then detour:

eastward along King West;
northward** along Spadina Avenue;
eastward along Adelaide Street West; and then
southward along Charlotte Street to Oxley Street,
ending their trips.

Southbound cars skip their regular stops:

  • on Bathurst Street at Niagara Street and Fort York Boulevard,
  • on Fleet Street west of Bathurst and Bastion Streets and Fort York Boulevard,
  • on Manitoba Drive west of Strachan Avenue; and
  • in Exhibition Loop.

Instead, southbound cars drop off or pick up passengers at temporary stops

  • on King Street West at Portland Street, across from Brant Street and at Spadina Avenue and
  • on Charlotte Street at Oxley Street.

Shuttle buses replace the cars south of King Street West.

Southbound streetcar passengers may transfer to southbound buses at stops on Bathurst Street between Richmond and King Streets West.

Northbound cars start their trips on Charlotte Street at Oxley Street, then proceed:

southward along Charlotte; and then
westward along King Street West to Bathurst Street,
resuming their regular route northward along Bathurst.

Northbound cars skip their regular stops

  • in Exhibition Loop,
  • on Manitoba Drive at Strachan Avenue, east of Fort ork Boulevard, across from Bastion Street and at Bathurst Street,
  • on Bathurst Street at Fort York Boulevard, Niagara Street and King Street West.

Shuttle buses replace the cars south of King Street West.

310 Bathurst overnight

Buses operate along their regular route.

511 Bathurst shuttle bus

From 9:30 p.m. Wednesday, December 9 until 5 a.m. Thursday, December 10, buses replace streetcars operating along the 511 Bathurst route south of King Street West.

Southbound buses start their trips on Adelaide Street West just east of Bathurst Street, then proceed:

eastward along Adelaide West;
northward along Portland Street;
westward along Richmond Street West;
southward along Bathurst; and then
westward along Fleet Street, Manitoba Drive and the Exhibition Loop access road to Exhibition Loop,
ending their trips.

Southbound buses drop off or pick up passengers at stops:

  • on Bathurst Street at Portugal Square, King Street West, Niagara Street and Fort York Boulevard,
  • on Fleet Street west of Bathurst and Bastion Streets and Fort York Boulevard,
  • on Manitoba Drive west of Strachan Avenue and
  • in Exhibition Loop.

Northbound buses start their trips in Exhibition Loop, then proceed:

eastward along Exhibition Loop access road and Manitoba Drive;
southward along Strachan Avenue;
eastward along Lake Shore Boulevard West;
northward along Bathurst Street;
eastward along Adelaide Street West to just west of Bathurst Street,
ending their trips.

Northbound buses drop off or pick up passengers at stops

  • in Exhibition Loop,
  • on Manitoba Drive at Strachan Avenue,
  • on Bathurst Street at Fort York Boulevard, Niagara Street and King and Adelaide Streets West.

These northbound 511 Bathurst stops have no transit service from 9:30 p.m. Wednesday, December 9 until 5 a.m. Thursday, December 10 and from 9:30 p.m. Thursday until 5 a.m. Friday, December 11:

  • on Fleet Street east of Fort York Boulevard, across from Bastion Street and at Bathurst Street.

Northbound bus passengers can connect with northbound streetcars at stops on Bathurst Street between King and Adelaide Streets West.

509 Harbourfront

From 9:30 p.m. Wednesday, December 9 until 5 a.m. Thursday, December 10 and from 9:30 p.m. Thursday until 5 a.m. Friday, December 11, buses replace streetcars. Buses drop off or pick up passengers at stops beside the curb, not at the centre-roadway streetcar stops.

Eastbound buses start their trips in Exhibition Loop, then proceed:

eastward along the Exhibition Loop access road, Manitoba Drive and Fleet Street;
southward along Fort York Boulevard;
eastward along Lake Shore Boulevard West;
southward along Bathurst Street;
eastward along Queens Quay West;
northward along Bay Street;
eastward along Adelaide Street East; and then
southward along Yonge Street to King Street West,
ending their trips.

Eastbound buses likely drop off or pick up passengers at stops

  • in Exhibition Loop,
  • on Manitoba Drive at Strachan Avenue,
  • on Queens Quay West east of Bathurst Street, at Dan Leckie Way, Lower Spadina Avenue and Rees Street, beside Harbourfront Centre and the Ferry Docks Terminal,
  • on Bay Street north of Queens Quay West, at Lake Shore Boulevard West, across from the Air Canada Centre and at Front, Wellington and King Streets West and
  • on Yonge Street at King Street West (King Station).

Eastbound passengers may connect with the 1 Yonge - University subway line at Yonge Street and King Street West. You’ll need a transfer if you pay with cash, tickets or tokens when you board.

These eastbound 509 Harbourfront stops have no transit service from 9:30 p.m. Wednesday, December 9 until 5 a.m. Thursday, December 10 and from 9:30 p.m. Thursday until 5 a.m. Friday, December 11:

  • on Fleet Street east of Fort York Boulevard, across from Bastion Street and at Bathurst Street.

These eastbound 509 Harbourfront stops have no transit service from 9:30 p.m. Thursday, December 10 until 5 a.m. Friday, December 11:

  • at Queens Quay station and
  • at Union Station streetcar platform.

Westbound buses start their trips on Yonge Street at King Street West, then proceed:

southward along Yonge;
westward along Wellington Street West;
southward along Bay Street;
westward along Queens Quay West;
northward along Bathurst Street;
westward along Lake Shore Boulevard West;
northward along Fort York Boulevard; and then
westward along Fleet Street, Manitoba Drive and the Exhibition Loop access road to Exhibition Loop,
ending their trips.

Westbound buses likely drop off or pick up passengers at stops:

  • on Yonge Street at King Street West,
  • on Bay Street at Front Street West and south of Harbour Street,
  • on Queens Quay West across from the Ferry Docks Terminal and Harbourfront Centre, at Rees Street, Lower Spadina Avenue Dan Leckie Way and Bathurst Street,
  • on Fleet Street west of Fort York Boulevard,
  • on Manitoba Drive west of Strachan Avenue and
  • in Exhibition Loop.

These westbound 509 Harbourfront stops have no transit service from 9:30 p.m. Thursday, December 10 until 5 a.m. Friday, December 11:

  • at Union Station streetcar platform and
  • in Queens Quay Station.

Subway passengers may connect with westbound 509 Harbourfront buses at King Station. You’ll need a transfer if you pay your fare with cash, tickets or tokens.

510 Spadina
317 Spadina overnight

From 9:30 p.m. Thursday, December 10 until 5 a.m. Friday, December 11, all cars start and end their trips in Charlotte Loop — on Charlotte Street at Oxley Street, just north of King Street West.

Southbound cars skip their regular stops

  • on Spadina Avenue at King and Front Streets West,
  • on Lower Spadina Avenue at Bremner Boulevard,
  • on Queens Quay West east of Lower Spadina Avenue, at Rees Street, beside Harbourfront Centre and the Island Ferry Docks,
  • in Queens Quay Station and
  • at the Union Station streetcar platform.

Shuttle buses replace the cars south of King Street West.

Southbound streetcar passengers can connect with southbound buses at stops on Spadina Avenue at Adelaide and King Streets West.

Northbound cars skip their regular stops

  • at the Union Station streetcar platform,
  • in Queens Quay Station,
  • on Queens Quay West across from the Island Ferry Docks Terminal and Harbourfront Centre and west of Rees Street
  • on Lower Spadina Avenue north of Queens Quay West and Bremner Boulevard and
  • on Spadina Avenue north of Front Street West.

These northbound 510 Spadina stops have no transit service from 9:30 p.m. Thursday, December 10 until 5 a.m. Friday, December 11:

  • at Union Station streetcar platform and
  • in Queens Quay Station.

  • on Queens Quay West across from the Ferry Docks Terminal and Harbourfront Centre and at Rees Street and Lower Spadina Avenue,
  • on Lower Spadina Avenue north of Queens Quay West and Bremner Boulevard and
  • on Spadina Avenue at Front, King and Richmond Streets West.

Northbound bus passengers can connect with northbound streetcars at stops on Spadina Avenue between King and Queen Streets West.
