Rapidway on Highway 7 West:
More construction, starting December 12

Metrolinx and York Region contractors continue getting ready to build a rapidway — bus-only lanes in the centre of the roadway — along Highway 7 West from west of Jane Street to east of Keele Street.

This weekend, crews are performing geotechnical surveys of the foundations supporting the ramps to Highway 400. They’ll also block traffic lanes between Keele Street and Bowes Road and in the Vaughan Metropolitan Centre area.

From 12:01 until 9 a.m. each day, starting Saturday, December 12, crews will block these ramps at the Highway 400 / Highway 7 interchange to survey the foundations:

  • the west / north ramp;
  • the west / south ramp; and
  • the east / south ramp.

They’ll only block one ramp at a time.

They’ll also close a single lane of the northeast / west ramp but the ramp will be open to traffic.

Work continues until 9 a.m. December 17.

From 7 a.m. until 5 p.m. Saturday, December 12 and from 9:30 a.m. until 5 p.m. Monday, December 14, crews block one eastbound traffic lane between Keele Street and Bowes Road to clean up the site and remove piles of earth.

They’ll temporarily block some driveways on the south side of Highway 7. Flag persons will be on site to direct motorists safely around the work area.

Expect construction-related noise from equipment and trucks.

From 7:30 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. Saturday, December 12, crews are pouring concrete on Highway 7 in the Vaughan Metropolitan Centre area.

They’ll reduce westbound traffic to just one lane during this work.

During Highway 7 West rapidway construction, also expect delays for:

  • Brampton Transit Züm express buses operating along the 501 Züm Queen route;
  • TTC buses operating along the 35D Jane and 107 Keele North routes; and
  • York Region Transit Viva express buses operating along the Viva orange route and YRT local buses operating along the 20 Jane and 77 Highway 7 routes.
