TTC replacing rails on Lake Shore West,
January 11 to 18

From Monday, January 11 until Monday, January 18, TTC track crews are replacing worn rails at three separate locations on Lake Shore Boulevard West. The work does not affect streetcar service, streetcars continue to operate through the area during the work.

They’re working:

  • Near 2150 and 2151 Lake Shore Boulevard West (just east of Park Lawn Road);
  • Near 2256 Lake Shore Boulevard West (near Legion Road); and
  • Near 2588 Lake Shore Boulevard West (just west of Miles Road).

The crews start working at 2150/2151 Lake Shore West. After finishing at each site, they’ll relocate to the next location further west and start working there.

At each site, crews may block traffic lanes, but they’ll make sure that one lane in each direction is open to traffic. All work takes place in the centre-lane streetcar track right-of-way.

The City of Toronto may temporarily restrict on-street parking and turning to create a safe work zone for the crew and provide a temporary storage location for new rails until they are installed.

At each location, the crews are:

  • digging to expose the worn rail that they’ll replace;
  • installing the new rails;
  • welding and grinding the new rails; and
  • placing new concrete.
