Chester Station pump replacement:
TTC work starts mid-January

Update — Monday, July 11, 10:45 a.m.: Construction has ended.

Update — Wednesday, February 24, 2:33 p.m.: Construction continues until mid-July or Friday, July 15.

Update — Friday, February 5, 2:33 p.m.: Starting today, the TTC is assessing soil conditions in the area as part of an upcoming project to build a second exit from the station.

The TTC is currently replacing its pump infrastructure throughout the subway network. Pumps help keep water from reaching track level, so that subway trains can continue to operate.

Starting mid-January, crews are replacing or upgrading all sanitary pumps that remove wastewater from

  • Chester Station.

During this work, the crews are pumping concrete overnight in the station. They’re generally working Mondays to Fridays from 7 a.m. until 9 p.m. and from 9 a.m. until 7 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays.

The work has no impact on motorists or pedestrians on Chester Avenue or pedestrian access in the station.

For safety, crews will set up and remove the work area (at the start and end of the project) overnight through the main entrance doors.
