Update — Thursday, February 4, 5:06 p.m.: Construction continues until February 19.
Starting Monday, January 25, TTC electrical crews are upgrading overhead wiring on
- Wellington Street East between Church and Yonge Streets and
- Wellington Street West between York and Yonge Streets,
including the intersections.
Upgrading the overhead wiring is necessary so that the TTC can operate its new low-floor, accessible Toronto Flexity streetcars along the street. Over the past two years, electrical crews have been upgrading the overhead wire system along streetcar routes in the TTC network.
To complete this overhead work in a safe manner, crews work from 1 until 6 a.m. They’ll usually use two to three overhead trucks with hydraulic equipment. You may hear beeping from back-up alarms on the trucks or see bright lights from equipment overnight.
Most traffic lanes will be available to motorists while work proceeds. The City of Toronto may temporarily restrict parking in the area to create a safe work zone and maintain through traffic.
The work does not affect streetcar service on Wellington Street. Buses are replacing the streetcars that usually operate along the 503 Kingston Rd tripper route, and no streetcars operate along the street overnight.
Upgrading overhead wiring on Wellington Streets East and West continues until February 6 19.
