Rapidway on Highway 7 West:
More construction starts February 11

Metrolinx and York Region contractors continue getting ready to build a rapidway — bus-only lanes in the centre of the roadway — along Highway 7 West from west of Jane Street to east of Keele Street.

Tomorrow, Thursday, February 11, crews are “walking” a crane across Highway 7 at the bridge over the Canadian National Railway tracks. As they move the crane from one side of Highway 7 to the other, they’ll close Highway 7, one lane at a time, for about 10 minutes at a time.

Expect delays for York Region Transit buses operating along the 77 Highway 7 route.

After they’ve moved the crane, they’ll start working on building a new retaining wall. From 7 a.m. until 5:30 p.m. each day, they’ll reduce one eastbound lane to just three metres in width to make sure that the counter weight of the excavator does not interfere with traffic.

Due to the nature of this work, expect noise and vibration around the work area.

Work to build the retaining wall continues until March 11.

During Highway 7 West rapidway construction, also expect delays for:

  • Brampton Transit Züm express buses operating along the 501 Züm Queen route;
  • TTC buses operating along the 35D Jane and 107 Keele North routes; and
  • York Region Transit Viva express buses operating along the Viva orange route and YRT local buses operating along the 20 Jane and 77 Highway 7 routes.
