Rapidway on Highway 7 West:
More construction starts February 16

Metrolinx and York Region contractors continue getting ready to build a rapidway — bus-only lanes in the centre of the roadway — along Highway 7 West from west of Jane Street to east of Keele Street.

Next week from Tuesday, February 16 until Friday, February 19, crews are working on the median islands on Highway 7 at Jane Street and installing new traffic loops at Keele Street.

From 8:30 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. each day, crews are closing the eastbound centre lane on Highway 7 between Edgeley Boulevard / Interchange Way and east of Jane Street and part of the left turning lane from Highway 7 onto Jane Street to install a small retaining wall.

Next, crews will conduct electrical work on the south side of the eastbound lanes. This involves closing an eastbound curb lane from just east of Edgeley / Interchange Way [the Vaughan Metropolitan Centre area] to just west of Jane Street.

Due to the nature of this work, expect noise and vibration around the work area.

From 9:30 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. each day, crews are installing traffic loops around the intersection of Highway 7 with Keele Street.

They’ll work on one lane at a time over the course of the week, temporarily blocking traffic lanes near the work area as the crews work their way around the intersection.

Due to the nature of this work, expect noise and vibration around the work area.

During Highway 7 West rapidway construction, also expect delays for:

  • Brampton Transit Züm express buses operating along the 501 Züm Queen route;
  • TTC buses operating along the 35D Jane and 107 Keele North routes; and
  • York Region Transit Viva express buses operating along the Viva orange route and YRT local buses operating along the 20 Jane and 77 Highway 7 routes.
