Metrolinx contractors are working to build the future Eglinton Crosstown light rail transit line.
For 50 continuous hours this weekend, they’re demolishing the Photography Drive bridge over Eglinton Avenue West as the first step in building Mount Dennis Station. The bridge has been closed to traffic since 2002, when Kodak Canada closed down its nearby plant.
To accommodate the work and maintain the safety of workers, motorists and residents, the City of Toronto is closing
- Eglinton Avenue West between Weston Road and Black Creek Drive
late Friday evening, all day Saturday and most of Sunday.
While the street is closed, the City will reroute:
- eastbound through traffic on Eglinton West - southward along Weston Road and northward along Black Creek Drive to continue eastward along Eglinton West.
- westbound through traffic on Eglinton West - northward along Black Creek and Trethewey Drives to Jane Street or southward along Black Creek to Weston Road to continue westward along Eglinton.
The TTC is detouring buses operating along these routes:
Metrolinx and the City will use message boards and “paid-duty” Toronto Police Service officers to alert motorists during the closure.
Customers can gain access to No Frills from Black Creek Drive. The work blocks the Eglinton access to No Frills during the weekend.
Since early this month, crews have been moving equipment on-site to prepare the bridge deck for demolition. They’ve removed and recycled asphalt, concrete and steel girders from the bridge and installed jersey barriers to redirect traffic and protect workers.
Toronto Hydro crews have removed street lamps to re-use them elsewhere.
