Early next month, MiWay is hosting a series of public information centres to showcase, “MiWay 5”, its five-year service plan, and update you on how it’s implementing the plan.

During this series of events, you’ll learn how MiWay has already started to reorganize its routes into a grid system to provide more direct transit service throughout Mississauga. These meetings are your opportunity to learn about upcoming changes to the MiWay network over the next five years. (For example, later this year, you can expect new service to Erin Mills Transitway Station, more frequent service on the transitway along the 109 Meadowvale express route and new weekend service along the 101 Dundas express route.)

MiWay has scheduled the events for:

Events take place in communities across the city, including:

MiWay says MiWay Five is its “plan for evolving public transit in Mississauga… from 2016 to 2020.” It says it has comprehensively reviewed where transit operates, when it operates, and how frequently. Now, the plan is defining MiWay’s service standards for the next five years and setting the stage for the Hurontario light rail transit line and for expanding transit in the future and .

MiWay started developing the plan in April 2014 by consulting with passengers through surveys and focus groups and by reaching out to various stakeholder groups. It also hosted a series of meetings last May to get your feedback before it finalized the plan.

According to MiWay staff, the plan offers Mississauga transit passengers ten key benefits:

  1. more service along major streets, creating “stronger” transit corridors to support a grid network;
  2. more frequent service along those major transit corridors;
  3. more service during “off-peak” periods — meaning all times of the week other than rush hours;
  4. more express service between key destinations;
  5. integration of local and express routes with the Mississauga Transitway.
  6. direct connections between major transit hubs;
  7. better connections with GO Transit trains and buses;
  8. better connections to major employment areas;
  9. better connections to colleges and universities; and
  10. better connections between nearby neighbourhoods.
