The TTC opened the Bloor - Danforth line to its first passengers 50 years ago on Friday, February 25, 1966.

To celebrate 50 years of subterranean, east-to-west rapid transit in Toronto, the Artists Newsstand in Chester Station is hosting a birthday bash at 6 p.m. Thursday, February 25.

Visit the newsstand, show your TTC pride and enjoy refreshments, performance and deep February cheer, including cake, balloons, burlesque, subway swag and a TTC history lesson!

Featured performances from Miss Dainty Box and others will commemorate the Golden Jubilee of Line 2. History lessons with Moe Angelos! Jackie Lee transforms the kiosk into a party pinata! DJ Nik Red spins 1966! Plus a free limited-edition print by Jackie Lee, while supplies last!

If you plan to take the TTC subway, directly to Chester Station, you’ll find about 30 stairs from the subway platform to the street level, but the station also has escaltors. Broadview Station (three blocks west of Chester) and Pape Station (four blocks east of Chester) are accessible. The doors to Chester Station do not have push buttons, but volunteers on doors will make sure to prop them open. The newsstand kiosk is accessible - on ground/street level. Note that there are no public washrooms at Chester Station.

The Chester Newsies recently transformed the former Gateway Newsstand kiosk at Chester Station into a whimsical artists’ space and creative hub.
