Two St. Patrick’s Day parades and a road race affect transit services in Peterborough and Toronto this Sunday, March 13.


The events affect service along these routes:

Peterborough St. Patrick’s Day Parade

The City of Peterborough is closing

  • George Streets North and South between Parkhill Road and Lansdowne Avenue

Sunday afternoon to accommodate the Downtown Peterborough Business Improvement Association’s annual parade.

The event affects GO Transit and Peterborough Transit services.

From 1:30 until 5:30 p.m. Sunday, March 13, southbound buses operate along their regular route to George Street South and Parkhill Road West, then detour:

westward along Parkhill
southward along Aylmer Street North;
eastward along Simcoe
looping through the Downtown Peterborough Terminal; then
westward along Simcoe Street; and then
southward along Aylmer North to Charlotte Street,
resuming their regular route westward along Charlotte.

Northbound buses operate along their regular route to Charlotte Street at Aylmer Street North, then detour:

northward along Aylmer North;
eastward along Simcoe Street;
looping through the Downtown Peterborough Terminal; then
westward along Simcoe Street;
northward along Aylmer North;
eastward along Parkhill Road West to Water Street,
resuming their regular route northward along Water.

Buses serve all regular stops.

11 Ashburnham

From 1:30 until 5:30 p.m. Sunday, March 13, inbound buses operate along their regular route to Hunter Street East and Rogers Street, then detour:

southward along Burnham Street;
eastward along Maria Street;
northward along Rogers Street;
eastward along Douro Street;
northward along Armour Road;
westward along Parkhill Roads East and West;
southward along Aylmer Street North;
eastward along Simcoe Street; and then
northward into the Downtown Peterborough Terminal,
ending their trips.

Outbound buses start their trips at the Downtown Peterborough Terminal, as usual, then proceed:

westward along Simcoe Street;
northward along Aylmer Street North;
eastward along Parkhill Roads West and East;
southward along Armour Road;
westward along Dufferin Street;
southward along Rogers Street;
westward along Hunter Street East;
southward along Burnham Street;
eastward along Maria Street;
northward along Rogers Street to Hunter East,
resuming their regular route eastward along Hunter.

10 Collison

From 1:30 until 5:30 p.m. Sunday, March 13, inbound buses operate along their regular route to Lansdowne Street West and Park Street South, then detour:

along their regular route northward along Park South.

Buses skip their regular stops on Park Street South between Lansdowne Street West and McKellar Street, McKellar between Park South and Lock Street, Lock between McKellar and Lansdowne West and Lansdowne between Lock and Park South. Buses operating along the 10 Collison route drop off and pick up passengers at these stops.

Outbound buses reverse the detour routing.

9 Nicholls Park

From 1:30 until 5:30 p.m. Sunday, March 13, inbound buses operate along their regular route to Armour Road and Parkhill Road East, then detour:

westward along Parkhill East and West;
southward along Aylmer Street North;
eastward along Simcoe Street; and then
northward into the Downtown Peterborough Terminal,
ending their trips.

Buses operating along the 11 Ashburnham route drop off and pick up passengers at regular 9 Nicholls Park stops south of Parkhill Road East.

Toronto


Toronto events include the Achilles Canada St. Patrick’s Day 5K Run / Walk (March 17); and the Toronto St. Patrick’s Day Parade (March 17).


Achilles Canada St. Patrick’s Day 5K Run / Walk

The City of Toronto is closing several streets in downtown Toronto on Sunday morning to accommodate the annual run, including:

  • Wellington Street West between Clarence Square and Yonge Street.

Registration fees support Achilles Canada, a non-profit organization that allows people with disabilities to benefit from running.

The event affects TTC services.

6 Bay

From about 9:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. Sunday, March 13, passengers should expect detours or delays as participants pass along Wellington Street West at Bay Street.

The St. Patrick’s Day Parade also affects service along this route Sunday, March 13.

172 Cherry St

From about 9:30 a.m. until 12:15 p.m. Sunday, March 13, westbound buses operate along their regular detour route to Church Street and Wellington / Front Streets East, then detour:

northward along Church;
westward along King Streets East and West; and then
northward along York Street to just north of King West,
ending their trips.

Westbound buses skip their regular stops

  • on Wellington Street East at Yonge Street,
  • on Wellington Street West at Bay and York Streets and
  • on York Street at King Street West.

Eastbound buses start their trips on York Street, just north of King Street West, then proceed:

northward along York;
westward along Richmond Street West;
southward along University Avenue; and then
eastward along King Street West to York,
resuming their regular route eastward along King West.

Toronto St. Patrick’s Day Parade

The City of Toronto is closing

  • Harbord Street between Spadina Avenue and St. George Street,
  • Hoskin Avenue between St. George Street and Queen’s Park Crescent West

and other streets near the St. George Campus of the University of Toronto from about 8 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. Sunday, while parade organizers set up the second annual parade.

The parade starts from St. George Street and Bloor Street West at noon. As it reaches the various parts of its route and then clears the streets after it passes by, the City is closing and then re-opening streets in downtown Toronto from noon until about 3 p.m., including

  • Bloor Street West between St. George and Yonge Streets,
  • Yonge Street between Bloor and Queen Streets,
  • Queen Street West between Yonge Street and University Avenue and
  • University Avenue, northbound lanes between Queen and Dundas Streets West.

The TTC is detouring transit services during the event.

5 Avenue Rd

Buses operate along their regular route.

From about noon until about 2 p.m. Sunday, March 13, TTC supervisors direct buses through gaps in the parade at Bloor Street West and Avenue Road / Queen’s Park. Passengers should expect delays until the parade clears the intersection.

6 Bay

Buses operate along their regular route.

From about noon until about 2 p.m. Sunday, March 13, TTC supervisors direct buses through gaps in the parade at Bay Street and Bloor Street West. From about 1 until 3 p.m., the supervisors also direct buses through gaps in the parade at Bay and Queen Street West. Passengers should expect delays until the parade clears the intersections.

The Achilles Canada Toronto St. Patrick’s Day Run also affects service along this route Sunday, March 13.

506 Carlton

Streetcars operate along their regular route.

As the parade passes Yonge and Carlton / College Streets, from about 1 until about 3 p.m. Sunday, March 13, TTC supervisors direct streetcars through gaps in the parade. Passengers should expect some delays until the parade clears the intersection.

505 Dundas

Streetcars operate along their regular route.

As the parade passes Yonge and Dundas Streets, from about 1 until about 3 p.m. Sunday, March 13, TTC supervisors direct streetcars through gaps in the parade at Dundas and Yonge Streets. Passengers should expect some delays until the parade clears the intersection.

501 Queen

From about 1 until 3 p.m. Sunday, March 13, eastbound streetcars operate along their regular route to Queen Street West and Spadina Avenue, then detour:

southward along Spadina;
eastward along King Streets West and East; and then
northward along Church Street to Queen Street East,
resuming their regular route eastward along Queen East.

Eastbound cars skip their regular stops

  • on Queen Street West at Peter, John and Duncan Streets, University Avenue, York, Bay, and Yonge Streets and
  • on Queen Street East at Victoria and Church Streets.

Instead, eastbound cars drop off and pick up passengers at temporary stops

  • on Spadina Avenue south of Queen Street West,
  • on King Street West at Blue Jays Way, John and Simcoe Streets, University Avenue and York, Bay and Yonge Streets,
  • on King Street East at Church Street and
  • on Church Street north of Lombard Street and at Queen Street East.

Westbound streetcars reverse the eastbound detour routing.

Westbound cars skip their regular stops

  • on Queen Streets East at Victoria and Yonge Streets
  • on Queen Street West at Bay and York Streets and University Avenue, west of Simcoe Street and at McCaul, John and Soho Streets and Spadina Avenue.

Instead, westbound cars drop off and pick up passengers at temporary stops

  • on Church Street at Richmond, Adelaide and King Streets East,
  • on King Street East at Victoria and Yonge Streets,
  • on King Street West at Bay and York Streets, University Avenue, Duncan, John and Peter Streets and Spadina Avenue and
  • on Spadina Avenue north of King Street West.

94 Wellesley

From 8 a.m. until 3 p.m. Sunday, March 13, eastbound buses operate along their regular route to Harbord Street and Spadina Avenue, then detour:

southward along Spadina Avenue and Crescent;
eastward along College Street; and then
northward along Queen’s Park and Queen’s Park Crescent East to Wellesley Street West,
resuming their regular route eastward along Wellesley West.

Eastbound buses skip their regular stops

  • on Harbord Street at St. George Street,
  • on Hoskin Avenue at Wycliffe College and
  • on Wellesley Street West at the Ontario Legislature Building.

Westbound buses operate along their regular route to Wellesley Street West and Queen’s Park Crescent East, then detour:

westward along Wellesley
southward along Queen’s Park Crescent West and Queen’s Park;
westward along College Street; and then
northward along Spadina Avenue and Crescent to Harbord Street,
resuming their regular route westward along Harbord.

Westbound buses skip their regular stops

  • on Queen’s Park Crescent West at Hoskin Avenue,
  • on Hoskin Avenue at Trinity College and St. George Street and
  • on Harbord Street at Spadina Avenue.

As the parade passes Yonge and Wellesley Streets, from about 1 until 3 p.m. Sunday, March 15, TTC supervisors direct buses through gaps in the parade. Passengers should expect some delays until the parade clears the intersection.


Inbound buses operate toward downtown.

Outbound buses operate away from downtown.
